What drives do you reckon are in this?
WD did make odd sized 5TB green drives, so 4x 5TB Reds is a possibility, but I'd have thought this would contain 2x 10TB Reds instead.

I'd be surprised if they didn't ship with reds - BNIB pre-configured look to have shipped reds and whites aren't rated for multiple drive enclosures *fingers crossed*

Should be Reds looking at other online listings
Cheers Op

UK doesn’t appear on the delivery address for me.

On WD’s website for the UK, it’s here shop.westerndigital.com/en-…514

Slightly more expensive on here at £289.

Still a bargain!

Blimey, it’s cheap enough to upgrade my NAS with these drives and put the ones from that in this one (want this one as a backup NAS at the parentals

What does recertified actually mean? Is it where drives have errors so they have hidden them?
How do u get the 10% discount I cant find newsletter option in "explore" on menu.

Edit: Nevermind got a discount code in email.

As others have mentioned sold out already.

Great deal. No longer available. Just shows as notify me (by email) when available.

Shame, been after something like this for a while
Never be in stock again or they only bring in a handful at a time
Bought the NAS only for £112 with code. Cheers OP
I ordered earlier but might be a silly question but what does recertified mean?(embarrassed)
I think it's customer returns and repairs
I'm curious too these recertified drives on average how many hours on time do they have?

Is this any good. I have a HP Microserver and it is a PITA !
Is this NAS able to transcode 4k?

Is this NAS able to transcode 4k?

No lol. I doubt this NAS has any transcoding abilities whatsoever at any resolution. You need a lot of horsepower for 4K if you're going to do it in software (CPU) . I think a 4K to 1080p requires requires a CPU with a recommended passmark of 17,000. I dont know if this has a little Celeron or ARM CPU, but im betting its passmark rating is <1000, maybe considerably less. This NAS is strictly direct stream file serving only.

Why a PITA?, this will be worse unless you want the built in software for some reason

I have no idea lol. I have a very old single bay Zyxel NAS with a single core processor and only 256mb RAM. The HDD is nearly full and I was looking to upgrade to at least a 2 bay NAS but not willing to spend a lot of money. I only use my NAS to stream movies at 1080p max resolution. I do not use it for any other fancy stuff like transcoding, torrenting or iTune server etc. So upgrading to a dual core processor with 2 GB RAM is rather spectacular for me. It comes with a year's warranty as well, so at £112, it is worth a punt. docs.rs-online.com/2db…pdf
It's worth keeping an eye on the stock because I ordered one last night, forgetting to apply the 10% discount code. So I ordered a second one, thinking I'd just be able to cancel the duplicate order. I've just called them up to do that and so there should be one 20TB model coming available shortly.

Cracking deal, worth it for the drives alone! However, I'm struggling to find any information on the NAS itself. Is it an old model? Can't find any reviews or a WD information page on it.
@coco_cool i dont think they are the same model. The one from wd website is just the ex4 released around 2014 not the ex4100 which is a newer model. The ex 4 only has a single core 2.0 GHz processor
And 512 MB of system memory.. products.wdc.com/lib…pdf

I stand corrected!
Many thanks.

What's wrong with the Microserver? I have one and it's utterly fantastic. I wish I'd bought more when they were so cheap.
The recertified WD NAS actually have whites inside with specs as WD red, which strengthens the theory that reds and whites work exactly the same, in WD housings at least.
Mine just arrived. The drives are WD50EFRX-68MYNM1 which appear to be WD Red.
I always miss out on the awesome recertified deals, been watching this for days now for one to come back in stock
