230L Water Butt for £24 @ wilko (free click and collect)

Saw a deal recently on the 100l water butt from aldi that cost £18, and it seemed quite popular. So considering this carries over twice the amount of water and is ony £6 more I personally think it is a better deal. Most 100l ones are £20 and this is 230L. Range does a 210l one for £30.

Theres a £3.50 delivery charge if you want it home delivered (which i decided to go for), but that still makes it cheaper than anywhere else.

The full rain diverter kit is sold instore for £5 for those who have not had a water butt before. It is the cheapest rain diverter kit around. This will take your total to £29 - but still cheaper than elsewhere for such a large water butt.

Please help save water ... extremely useful as water storage in case of drought during which time it is not a good idea to use tap water for watering plants.

You gonna be the 'butt' of all jokes on here now mate!

I like big butts.

Only downside that I can see is that I don't think it includes the stand. You might have to buy this separately:

which is OOS at the moment.

we have a large quantity of bricks in our garden that arent in use - so we plan to place them on the bricks. my neighbour has hers on bricks but she doesnt really use the tap much anyway - she prefers to take it out of the top.

What country do you people live in? Here in the UK our water comes out of the taps. Indoors!

Ordered one, thanks for sharing.

The indoor tap is a rather more expensive option than a water butt; especially if you are on a water meter.

Really? Is the saving really that big?

Awfully primitive.

Saffaboy are you a troll or merely not aware of the difference with regard to potable water?

why waste drinking quality water for many outdoor activites, whay add all that chemical crud to your vegetables.

Do you pay the bills in your house? are you not aware of poverty / water poverty?

The water authorities charge for disposing of water running off your roof into their drainage systems, many folk who divert enough % of water are entitled to a rebate on their bills..

230l of water would cost approx £1.30 inc sewer charges from tap, so i guess if you were gonna use >4,000litres for its life it would be worth getting one of these

Water poverty? LOL Like I said I live in the UK, I have an endless supply coming out of the taps. And yes I pay the bill, by direct debit so no idea how much it is.

Good for you. You're obviously either not on a meter or you have more money than you have good sense. I take it that it's the former otherwise you wouldn't be looking for deals on here.

This looks like the one I have. I looked at a fair few before buying and this seemed very rugged by comparison.

Water butt water has advantages over tap for plants. Tap is good for seedlings (reducing damping off and seedling rots) but it has chemicals in it that build up - notice any crud on the surface of your houseplant compost? You may be in a hard water area which some plants do not like. I use rainwater for my carniverous plants, a variety of orchids, a variety of ericaceous plants +/- ericaceous fertilizers.

'Custom' installation from my greenhouse runoff. But fwiw I have seen standard kits that you fit into a gutter down pipe with a takeoff pipe like these:

I bought a 210 litre one from Aldi two weeks ago, I think it was £28 and it came with a stand and connection kit.

I didn't need the connection kit so was going to buy one of these but my old water butt was leaking so didn't want to wait for this to be delivered.

im in the opposite situation... never had a water butt before so didnt know how they were connected to downpipes. found out from youtube and google that you need a diverter kit and a connector - neither of which i have. now im in search of cheap diverter kits and connector tubes.
