Just to point out this DOES have DVI.

I'm ok with the technical side of a PC but have no idea about monitors, resolution, Panel Tech, etc, etc. Any advice as to the value of this Monitor from those that do know about these things? For example, how does it compare to this deal (which I wish I had seen!) hotukdeals.com/ite…cr/

On cheap monitors like these most of the stats are useless.

Resolution is pretty much dependant on the size of the monitor so it's not something you can really choose independantly, except by an inch or two. Pixel pitch and dpi are the same thing and follow on directly from the size and resolution of the screen.

Panel Technology: For 1920x1200/1920x1080 screens all the ones under £300 and most of the ones under £400 are going to be TN since it's the cheapest and lowest quality LCD type currently availible. The viewing angles are where the picture becomes completely unviewable, it'll start to degrade before that (in the case of TN they're so bad that the top and bottom of the screen are slightly different shades to the centre)

All monitors have sufficient brightness for most uses.

Contrast ratio and response time and complete lies these days and bear no relation to the image quality of the monitor, dynamic contrast doesn't even have anything to do with contrast.

Really, the only useful information you can get from the specifications is the practical matters like how large and heavy it is, how adjustable the stand is, and what connections it accepts (DVI is the most common for PC use, although if you want it for a laptop then you might want a screen that's got a DVI-I or VGA connector as laptops inexplicably tend to use this older port). If you want to know about image quality then you have to find a review or test.
