Wonder if an SSD will fit.

Why wouldn't? Slimmer SSDs used to have some frame.
You can loads of different types on ebay
So you just insert/attach the drive onto this and then you can use it as an external HD?
whats delivery charge if any ?

Yes, as long as its 2.5 inch drive (laptop drive).
Mind desktop drives are bigger (3.5 inch).

I bet you can dismantle it or break it to make if fit 3.5 inch.
There would be no protection for 3.5 drive but it will work.

as 2.5 sata port and 3.5 sata PORTS are exactly the same.
This makes the plastic enclosure the only phisicall limit.

3.5 inch Drives need more power as far as i know

USB3 provides enough power.
at USB2 this was the issue in some cases.
I have never had this particular device but I have used similar in the past and always have had troubler with whatever computer I am attaching it to actually seeing the physical external drive - nothing there to assign a driver letter to in computer management.

This has been with HDD's that I know are formatted or which already have hundreds of MB's of files on. So, all in all, they just never seem to work for me.

Strange. I thought 3.5" drives required 12V in addition to 5V via USB.
USB 3.0/3.1 definitely doesn't provide enough power for a 3.5" drive.

I've never used this specific external enclosure but I've used a couple I got from Amazon and they have worked well with the drives that were left over after upgrading the drives in the PS3 and PS4.

It's a trivial matter to provide a voltage supply in excess of that available via the cable. Current is a different matter. If you're really interested, have a look at "charge pumps" or DC-DC conerters.

And they are different connectors, the sata bit is the same but you can't get it to fit on a 3.5in drive due to the different power connector, unless this is leads rather than a fixed plug in type connector.
Good price for usb 3, useful if you have an old laptop with a working HDD, or have replaced your laptop with a Ssd, I recently replaced a 500gb drive in my laptop, offsets the cost of the SSD too as a 500gb external drive would be worth about £25+!

Erm no, I doubt you could find any 3.5" hard drives with low enough power requirements to be powered from this. You might be able to hack it to physically fit the SATA & power connector, however the USB 3.0 bus can only provide 900mA. Also some 3.5" models require a 12V feed, which I doubt this could provide.

Have heat for the deal...
Bought this thinking it was the same the other posted some time ago which I missed.

Doesn't seem to be much different between the 2. The earlier one more slimmer since it only takes 2.5". This one also accept 3.5"
