It's really unusual to hear of a Poundland closing down. Do you know why this one is?

The guy at the till mentioned that they were having issues with the lease hence why they're having to close down. The shop next door which was Brantanos shoes have been empty for a while now too.

2 in town and 1 at Monks Cross

This is a clearance store hence why it probably is closing down I've had a few items for 50p from here.

Same in Beckton Store closing down sale.

Poundland business model cannot last forever. Inflation will eat it. Their stores used to be good value and used to pick up some end of line bargains. Hardly ever see anything in their stores worth buying these days. Most of what they sell these days is of such poor quality it breaks or doesn't work, branded stuff is all sized in terms of packaging so that you get less and therefore not good enough value. Have noticed they are selling more and more managers specials which are over the pound price point just so they have stuff to put on their shelves. They weren't even massively busy over Christmas and loads of stores had an abundance of Christmas stuff left.

Poundland was taken over by a South African company last September and their new motto "Poundland & More"
In the UK they own the high street brands Cargo, Harveys Furniture, Bensons for Beds, Sleepmaster and Pep&Co.
So we are probably going to see the end of most stuff being a £1

The odd pound shop was great for cleaning stuff, domestic consumerables etc but there are far too many in my town and the quality of what you buy has diminished considerably. I'm looking forward to Polish shops and poundlands closing and having a decent variety of things to buy.

If this is like Beckton which was ex 99p store then this is a trend. I read some where here on HUKD that some of the 99p stores are closing.... I guess these were sold because of the lease issue and PLand got sucked into it. Lets see what will happen to the rest of these 99p stores.

is this York store an Ex 99p store

Never been a 99p store in York.

Awww that's a shame got lots of 50p stuff from there last year, have to find somewhere else to buy my bargains now, ill keep an eye on here! Thanks op gonna pop in there later, moving into first house so lots of bits to buy

The one in town on coney street is poundworld not Poundland

18 stores shutting in the south. they were other discount stores beforehand and didnt make profit individually. nothi g to do with leases

Poundland at Clifton Moor used to be called Family Bargains until last year, Home Bargains next to Dunelm on the same site is the best budget store in York in my opinion.
