£250 incentive for Current account switch to a B account or Clydesdale or Yorkshire Bank

Found 24th Oct
I believe this was mentioned on HUKD at the start of the month but back then it was only for customers in Birmingham, and now it's rolled out nationwide.

Lifting from MSE
"The Current Account Plus from Clydesdale Bank* / Yorkshire Bank* (they both offer the same account) has launched a massive £250 switch incentive, which is the biggest upfront offer we've ever seen. It's likely to be a popular deal, so there are no guarantees that the offer will last long.

You can also get the offer with Clydesdale's new app-based B Account*. For full details see our Digital Banking guide.

Need-to-knows
  • You must use the Current Account Switch Service and choose a completion date within 31 days of requesting the switch. You'll need two direct debits on the account, which can be switched or set up after you've switched. They must both be paid out within 62 days of the switch completing and not be cancelled before receiving the bonus.
  • You also need to pay in £1,000 within 31 days of the switch completing, and another £1,000 in the 31 days after that, and log in to internet or mobile banking within that time.
  • The £250 will be paid within 70 days of your switch completing.
  • You can't get the bonus if you've ever received a switch incentive from Clydesdale or Yorkshire Bank.
  • Clydesdale Bank, Yorkshire Bank and B share the £85,000 UK savings safety guarantee, so don't hold more than £85,000 across the three.
  • Minimum monthly pay in: None (£1,000 to get the bonus)
  • In-credit interest: None
  • App: You can download it for iOS (rated 2.5/5) and Android (rated 2.9/5)
  • Arranged overdraft cost: £25 buffer then £6/mth usage cost plus 18.85% EAR variable
  • Unarranged overdraft cost: £10 buffer; then £6/day. £15 unpaid item fee (max £100/mth)"

To bag yourself the £250, I’ve made some handy instructions I hope will help you:

Account Switch – this can be one you don’t use, or you can usually go to your main bank account and create a new separate account. Santander and a few others have an option for this in your online banking.
Set up the bank account – I found B to be the quickest and simplest: moneysavingexpert.com/red…cac -> add your details, choose a transfer date (note it down) and set up passwords and access info. Save account number and sort code when done.
Switching Service – after the setup, there is an option to directly add your old account details to transfer from the switch bank in 1, sometimes also debit card number.
Using the app – you need to log in to internet or mobile banking once after the switch to qualify, so set it up quickly. You’ve already got all the details, download the B app on your phone by searching for ‘B Clydesdale’ in Google Play or the App Store. Log in and set up access so you can use it later.
Direct Debits – you need two direct debits and they must both be paid out within 62 days of the switch completing and not be cancelled before receiving the bonus. For speed and ease, use Little Debits (littledebits.org) and select two of the £1 plans to come out the next month -> I selected the Alpha and Bravo plans. Put in your details, you’ve got the two direct debits (just remember to cancel them once your £250 goes in later)
Pay-in transfers – you need £1000 paid in within 31 days of the switch, and another £1000 paid within 31 days after that. Either set up a standing order from your main account for a few days after the transfer and 31 days after that, or put it in your calendar to transfer in from another account after the switch and within 31 days after that. I plan to transfer in £1000 directly after the switch and then right back to my account using the B app, then do the same exactly 31 days after using my calendar.

After the switch, you just need to do two things:
  • Remember to log in to the app
  • Transfer the two lots of £1000 (and take it back out again if you wish)

Voila – you will be paid £250 within 70 days of the date you set for switch completion. I use Wolfram Alpha to calculate that date for my calendar and save it e.g. wolframalpha.com/inp…017

MSEs Need-to-knows are worth reading: moneysavingexpert.com/ban…nts

They actually paid my incentive twice back when it was £150. I told them and they said keep it lol.
I have been pleasantly surprised how good they are too, they have been really helpful on the few other occasions I've contacted them & the switch was painless. I have no problem recommending them even for your main account.

Conditions aren't too onerous either. £1k a month paid in for two months, two direct debits, and login to online ... Not much effort for £250.

The direct debits need to be taken that’s different to others which just have to be active.

Still not much effort for £250 quid, is it? They only need to be for a few quid to meet the condition.

That’s not what I was meaning most will use PayPal or other one off payments with this you can’t as it needs to be used think it said twice so need to play about with the direct debits you are moving. Ok if you are moving your main account but many hotdealers will just be doing the usual account flip for the cash.

Perfect just in time for Xmas too.

How can I do this? I was planning on just switching £1k from my main account to this?

PayPal is classed as a direct debit, buy two 10p SIM cards from eBay or something.

Its designed so that people have their monthly pay transferred to this account, so that it becomes a main bank account - then they can start making a profit on their £250 inducement. So you'll have to have the resources to pay in £1000+ for two consecutive months, but you can remove this amount after its paid in.

Paypal is a Direct Debit so you can just make several transactions , Pay a friend or family member , hell pay me if you like !

Just send 1p to friends/family and select your funding source as the bank account you wish the direct debit to come from.

You obviously have to setup your bank account with paypal first if its not already setup , really easy to do though.

Also , just be aware if you have any funds in your paypal account it will use that first , regardless of the funding source you select.

Unless your main account is with Clydesdale or Yorkshire it won't be an internal transfer

time to say goodbye to my mini account and the £1/month fee that santander charge for it

Can anyone confirm if the account switched from needs to have any active direct debit or payments or can these just be set up on the new account?

What do you guys recommend as the easiest way of doing this? I see PayPal above - I believe it can also be done with Tesco savings accounts?

Easiest? 2 different charities a £5 DD

I tried in Birmingham since its the account I wanted since I came from the UK and it has the complete best interface and user experience from any bank I've seen. But the declined me for my credit score, since I've been living in the UK only since February. A total shame. I doubt there's many people with as much money in their bank account and my income.

assuming the switch process will do this on you confirmation to existing bank that you are switching from? can it actually be forced?

As soon as the Switch process begins, your old account is history. Not optional

Can we switch a joint account and be eligible for switch incentive ?

Yes , Tesco Savings accounts are easy and once setup can be used for more DDs in the future which you setup to pay yourself
You can have 2 Tesco Savers per person , each will have a unique DD reference. Be careful here as I've been caught out before by doing 2 payments for different amounts from the SAME Tesco saver and because it has the same DD reference it doesn't count as an additional Direct Debit, only as one.

Joint account can be switched because there is an option for it on the switch form, whether or not it's eligible for the incentive though I would probably call Clydsdale just to to confirm

Nope, it won't count as your DD if that's what you mean. It will however cover your minimum pay-in

Yeah, payin is what I meant, thanks for clarification, so just setup two DD and pay in £1000 from another bank account, but do you have to leave it in for 31 days before transferring back to other bank account

Can the £1,000 be split up between two payments or does it have to be £1,000 in one lump sum?

Cheers guys needed to get rid of one .

I just switched from Lloyds to Halifax for that bonus. Do you think I would be rejected if I tried to switch from Halifax to Yorkshire? Not sure how long to wait if I want to take advantage and get accepted.

Remember if you're a couple you can apply for 2 single accounts for a nice total of £500. We'll have made over £1000 between us this year on switching offers alone

Then transfer the £1k out to another account and back into this account. Obvious relies on you having another bank other than the one you're switching from or having a friend you can send the money to who will then send it back to u at the required time.

thx for the info

ive just applied and there wanting proof of income, i dont get pay slips as im limited company and just pay myself what i like so looks like i cant get one.
it also never asked me who i was switching from or mentioned switching at all, does anyone know when that part of the application starts?

Does anyone know if I can switch from a Starling bank account?

Nope you can transfer it back out instantly (although I always leave it in there for 24hrs personally just to be sure)

Thanks, read it as internet transfer initially, not internal

Has anyone actually opened one yet? Bit worried about them asking for wages slips etc

Switch forms are usually after the application has completed and an account has been opened

Great just what I'm after, Thanks OP.
