I can't find it but I'm sure I read on a forum somewhere that it will only run at 2x when a normal sata is also used.

There are limitations with many motherboards as to which ports can be used simultaneously but that is purely a limit of the motherboard and not this or any other SSD.
Usually if you only have one PCIe M.2 slot it will run at full speed.
