Pay a bit more and get a Humax

...it's from the same stable as the Umax and Yamada boxes previously sold … ...it's from the same stable as the Umax and Yamada boxes previously sold by Maplin, and lately the barebones Nikkai. They use the Zoran chip which also appears in the Technosonic/Tevion and Ikasu machines. None of these machines have had good reviews in these pages so I wouldn't expect a lot from this model either.Looks like the £100 Goodmans at Currys is from the same stable as well then. Its a Zoran run machine and has essentially the same sort of front readout display as this Vaova from maplin. My advice is look at the Vestel based PVR like the recent Wharfedales from Argos if you want a really cheap PVR. You'll find them more practical and maybe less frutrating in day to day use than these Zoran based PVRs.

or pay a bit less and get a Humax

Sorry, voted cold - good attempt at a post (keep trying), but cold for me seeing it gets bad reviews - nothing going to make you tear you hair out quicker than a bad PVR.
