A lot!
It is a really cheap way of buying parma type ham, it should also last ages too. Makes sense if you buy a pack once a week as this should last and save you cash
Any good or it taste plastic/rubber like the ones from lidl/aldi??

Parma ham is miles away and far better than Serrano, which tends to a bizarre cross between greasy and plasticy in my opinion, so not really comparable

It’s cured: there’s some instructions - I can’t quite remember...you cover with a cloth and cut the top layer off...then the rest is fine to eat...

As far as I know they are essentially the same product, bar some small differences in the curing process and exactly where the curing takes place, so maybe you just had poor quality serrano? I havent eaten enough of either to know.

I would say ''edinburgher' hasn't eaten enough of either to say one is better than the other. Some Serrano is superb, Bellota, iberico.
Basically if you buy a cheap ham from a supermarket for £20 that includes a wooden stand and a knife (hah if you call it that)....then probably pot luck as to quality. If you walk into a top deli/store and pay £100 for one then I bet you get a pretty good Parma and a pretty good Serrano...
Although this is branded "extra special" believe me it's far from it. Hams that are graded "Serrano ham" are usually made from Dutch pork that's imported to Spain and aged there for only 12 months. This is the cheapest and least flavorful.

Then there is Iberico, made from the Spanish Iberico pig, which has a black hoof. They are aged from anything to 3 years fed on a cereal diet, and for a full hind leg of 7kg cost around £150.

The best is Iberico de Bellota, the pig is fed exclusively on acorns for the last year of its life which develops unsaturated fats in the meat, so it melts in your mouth. These are aged between 3 and 5 years. I bought a 5J (cinco jotas) full jamón from Spain 2 years ago and it was £380. The best thing I've ever tasted, pure heaven. A good ham like this will develop crystals full of umami flavor as it ages.

As with anything you get what you pay for.

On the contrary, having lived for a couple of years in Madrid I have actually eaten plenty of most types of ham. To me, Parma ham is tops. Maybe it’s a matter of taste. Definitely agree that if you buy from a good deli it’s going to be better than supermarket stuff. Some things are just worth paying a bit more for
Still full price online and not reduced in my local
Just seen them at ASDA Bearsden for 15 £. There were 10 or 12 when I left.
Bought one today 2-1-2018 for £7.50 from large pile ASDA Huddersfield
Available in Eastbourne Asda for £10 as of 3rd January. Long dated too!
