Highstreet retailer Wilkinson celebrates its 80th year of trading in 2010 and to mark this milestone, a selection of household essentials; typical Wilko's fare are being reduced to just 80 pence. A wide variety of product lines are included in this promotion but several are DIY/Decorating offers, and I thought that this deal was the pick of the lot!

A 2.5L tin of Wilkinson pure brilliant white (PBW) emulsion is being reduced from £3.51 to just 80p. This is the Wilko 'Right Price' own-brand stuff but it's ideal for base-coating walls & ceilings and at 32p/litre, it's cheaper than any 'trade' emulsion I've ever seen.

Other 80p Wilko DIY deals include:

Wilko white general purpose sealant 300ml cartridge: 80p (was £1.00)
Wilko 800-grade wall lining paper: 80p (was £1.78)
Wilko mini paint roller & tray set: 80p (was £1.99)
Wilko 2x masking tape 18mm x 25m: 80p (was £1.07)

I'm not entirely sure when this promotion starts, although it was my responsibility tonight to locate pallets & stands of 80p items throughout my store, so I'd guess that these deals go live tomorrow (31/03/2010), I may be wrong though. I'm not sure how long this 80th Anniversary promotion will run for but Wilko promotions usually last four weeks or until the promotional stock has sold out. Also, I'm not sure if this deal is online, the link I've provided is the DIY/Decorating section of the Wilkinsonplus website.

You get what you pay for in paint !

Dulux or Crown are realy worth paying the extra money for, others tend to be false economy.

It's decent enough stuff; the regular Wilkinson coloured emulsion has been on a par with Dulux in my experience. Bear in mind that with most Wilko own-brand products, the packaging usually states that: "If you are not happy with this Wilko product, simply return it and we will give you your money back" - or words to that effect. Granted, that's not much consolation if you've spent a weekend daubing your walls with rubbish paint, but at least you can reclaim your cash!

Paints & decorating products can be a liability nightmare; say you hire a painter & decorator and supply your own paint, which turns out to be substandard stuff. The supplier (paint retailer) can be liable for the costs incurred in rectifying any damage caused by substandard materials. It's an area where the waters of consumer protection and trades description legislation have the potential to get quite deep. I suppose my point is that most reputable retailers wouldn't risk tarnishing their reputation by putting their name to something substandard & shoddy.

Re: Wilko paint. I've used this budget emulsion to white-wash over a dark colour, prior to recovering with a new colour (if that makes sense?) and for that purpose, it's fine.

lol cheers Tom, voted hot... it has to be better than B&Q's homebrand paint

cool just in time for me as im just about to decorate my living room. it will do for doing the ceiling and undercoating the dark brown on the bottom half of my walls.

That's exactly what I used this for!

Just double-check with your local store to make sure that the offer has definitely gone live before making a trip. This deal is imminent but I can't guarantee it's live yet; I'd hate for anybody to make a wasted trip.

Oh, and as far as I know, this is a nationwide offer.

EXACTLY

he-he

(idiots)

Wilko own brand paint is excellent have used it for years, both paint and emulsion. This offer is their economy brand so cant recommend.Wilko own brands are in my opinion cheap and rubbish and not worth considering apart from their paint.

Good deal

For landlords looking to give their rental property a make over

For yourself, just to give the spare bedroom a quick once over before family comes to stay over Easter

No excuse now

"Once" over is pretty unlikely - it may be cheap but how cheap is your time when it looks awful/washy and you need to spend time putting two more coats on?

Believe me, the most expensive paint is cheap paint.

I have used WIlko's paint for years & I am currently making my way through 20L of B&Qs own brand Silk & Crowns Matt emulsion.

In my opinion Wilko's paint is far better than both, regardless of price. I will be making my way to Wilkinsons to stock up!

Enjoy doing 4 coats on this rubbish. Would only recommend as a miscoat on bare plaster.

drove out to the Clydebank store this morning and was told its 2 tubs per customer, looks like you can order more on-line though

Great deal for ceilings! Wilkos paint I always find to be great quality

Lovely!!!
25 cans of this should be enough to decorate my boiler room (3ft x 3ft)
:-)

Go in, buy your two tins, put (conceal) them in a carrier bag and then go straight back into the store and pick up another two - just pay through a different till! That tactic usually works for me; mainly at Christmas time for supermarket booze offers!

I learnt the hard way last week, painted a wall six times :x with cheap asda white paint, went out got some crown and wow what a difference! Buy cheap buy twice as my granddad used to say!!

six times and you could still see through it! once with the crown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice spot

Just emulsioned a large ceiling yesterday that was new plaster skimmed.I used Dulux Brill.White - today it has dried lovely with just one coat.No need for a further coat.Time is money.

It's worth noting that this is a maximum of 2 per customer, but there's no limit on the tills (i.e. you can scan more than 2 on the tills and it won't alert the cashier).

...or just put them in the boot of the car and do the rebound! I think i'll paint the missus - always wanted to try a 'white' girl! Cheers for the heads up Tom, will be looking out for the other 80p/80 Anniversary deals - cannot believe you guys are 80 years old!
