The whole railcard thing is a joke, how can you offer a discount purely based on age, surely this is positive discrimination? Discounts should be given on circumstances, i.e. disabled, key workers, out of work, students. I can swallow the under 25 card because most people in that bracket earn less, although it should probably stop at 21-23. How about they stop inventing idiotic railcards, offer concessions to people you need them, and just charge reasonable prices to start with.

Thanks for sharing @jackal66 , have a few friends this will help, will give them a nudge, heat added
Finally! Is this official? Was hoping it would be announced tomorrow in the Chancellors Spring Statement.
Before everyone gets too excited, read the article... this is not the full roll-out, its a trial of 10,000 cards and they are only available digitally for use on smartphones.
"The Independent estimates five million British people are eligible for the 26-30 Railcard, which means there is only one for every 500 people in the 26-30 cohort."

Right when you cross to 31 ...

In case it helps someone...

If you're travelling in London/the South East try the Network Rail Card, also £30 a year for 1/3 off, only for off peak travel times (unlike the 16-30 card) but no age restrictions, well only that you're over 16. network-railcard.co.uk/

Map of where is can be used - network-railcard.co.uk/cli…pdf

EDIT - updated info from other users:

bnwubnfguisr - Network rail card gives the discount also for your companions; 26-30 doesn't mention any discount for people who travel with you.

Delbert.Grady - although advertised as being for London and the Southeast, its actually covers quite a large area, down as far as Exeter in Devon (on South Western trains) and across to Worcester

Feel your pain
Basically you pay for the privilege of having slightly less extortionate fares.
"£12 mininum fare for journeys between 4:30am-10am excluding advance fares" seems to be the only condition I can find
Seems like Thatcher MK2 is learning from her Tory mistakes and trying to lure the yonger voters win incentives.
Young persons = Network Railcard = Senior Railcard. They are all the same pretty much.
Great to see it here, however, if you have a partner, the Two Together card is a great deal as well as you only need to buy 1 card for two people.

Unless you travel down South a Network Railcard it useless, so not pretty much the same.

See my reply above. Network Rail card is only discounted travel during off peak travel times and only in the south and south east of the country.

which is great for the times you travel together but not so much for the times you don't

I travel from Seer Green (Bucks) down south to Haywards Heath, and from there to Brighton on a network railcard. I get a third off travel - don't see why you wouldn't.
Seeing as the Network Railcard has been mentioned, its worth pointing out that although advertised as being for London and the Southeast, its actually covers quite a large area, down as far as Exeter in Devon (on South Western trains) and across to Worcester.
Thanks OP! Alarm set

Yes but sadly nothing North of Rugby which is why it’s no good for a lot of people!
Can this card be used in London tube off peak travel similar to 16-25?

Railcards are pretty much a promotional tool, to encourage people to use the trains either a) while young and building habits or b) when retired to boost daytime usage.
Does the cover the underground?!
A rail discount card that reduces as you get older might be a good idea, such as when you're 18 you get a 36% discount, and it drops by 3% each year until you're 30, so it helps people as their careers develop when they're younger and it's not such a big shock to lose, as they get older they should get better at personal finance.

With discount cards being digital now it should be very easy to administrate.

And where's the TCB link?
anyone know when this deal goes live? is it at midnight?
Trains are too expensive. We're all being fleeced (it's is complicated but mainly) to line the pockets of the shareholders. In case they pull out then the public cover the failure and hand it over to the next Dagobert Duck.
We should not be paying this much for overcrowded trains, when am abroad it's always cheaper (except high-speed trains but we haven't got those anyway and the current High-Speed project is a shambles, just like the privatisation driven by ideology and not much else).
There shouldn't be a need for a discount card like this :-/

Edit: but if you can get it please do, then youre slightly less scr*w*d than the rest ;-)
