30 minutes on the train from london to southend is closer to france, okay then.
Just keep your fingers crossed that there are no journalists critical of Maltese politicians on the plane.

London to Southend by train is closer to 60 minutes.
if you have ever flown from southend, as i have many times, you'd likely never fly from Stansted, Luton or Gatwick again.
amazingly close to the train station, about 50 yards, and really quick to navigate through to your gate,
London Southend lol what's next London Luton.
Can you imagine some poor tourists lands at London Southend then finds out where its at.
London Southend!! Haha! Love it.
London is to Southend as Malta is to Italy.

From east London, Gatwick is a long trek, Heathrow is a long trek.

Luton is okayish, but you still have a second journey from train station to actual airport.

Stansted is pretty decent if you live east - a bus from Stratford will take about 40 minutes on a good day.

Likewise, Southend is about 40 minutes from Stratford by train. And if you book a train ticket ahead, you can often get a £5 single, which is a bargain. You can't get to any other airport around London by train for £5.

So while the airport does not have much in the way of shops or restaurants, it's not that bad an option if you are traveling in the afternoon and can take the train.

P.S. It is a mockery to call that airport "LONDON Southend".

But let's not forget that Luton, Gatwick & Stansted are not in London either

Neither is Heathrow!

I always thought it was within the boundaries of London.

But just googled and seems you are right and it isn't! Seems the only airport "actually in London" is City Airport
telegraph.co.uk/tra…on/
And let's not forget the biggest p1££ taker of all "London Oxford Airport"! Two counties away from London

Southend is a great airport

"London" is a bit of a stretch but the same could be said for all airports outside the M25 imo

As it stands with a direct train connection (very easy to walk to right outside the airport) to London I think it holds up ok to anyone looking to fly in/out of the city. Obviously if you live in Reading or something pick to fly from somewhere else

I agree with many of you above, "London" southend is a bit of a push but as some people have pointed out its fairly easy to get to.

Those like me who think it should not be called a London Airport will no doubt also agree that Oxford should not be called " London Oxford Airport "

Makes southend look close now
Wow cheaper than a all day travel card return from Brighton to London £59.20
