Not a lot more advanced than a Galaxy Y really...just a slightly faster CPU....both still lingering on GB2.3..

I was looking for a cheap PAYG Android phone in this price range last week for my daughter....they are all pretty poor, in the end i decided the extra cash was worth spending on a Huawei Y300 at £60 on Upgrade....

Its not about being faster than the Galaxy y. Its got a MUCH bigger screen as well- beating the Iphone 5s in this respect. Its an excellent phone for watching films on and comes with earphones and a radio.

can you provide a link as i cant seem to get the £30 price

iPhone 5s has a 4" display...this phone has a 3.5" display at MUCH lower resolution. It is as you say though bigger than the Galaxy Y which has a 3" display...both this and the Galaxy Y have pitiful low Resolution though.

I don't suppose it's a bad buy though for £30 as there is nothing better in that price range so I'm still voting hot although i still say that if budget will allow the Huawei Y300 at £60 is an immensely better phone in every way.

The resolution is ok for the money and its good enough to watch legitimately downloaded films in all their glory

The phone only has a 2mp camera which is unusable when wanting to view photos back on PC or print them out etc.

The £29.95 upgrade price is only when you are already a Orange, T-Mobile, Virgin or Vodaphone customer and fit all the criteria for upgrading i.e your sim has been active for 6 months and has been topped up regularly.

Otherwise the price you pay is £39.95 + £10 top-up with a new sim and new number PAYG package total (£49.95).

Not true. A typical PC monitor has a resolution of 1920x1080 which is 2mp.

I used my grans sim who has had an old nokia for years and rarely tops up. anyone who needs a new phone every six months would buy a nicer one than this anyway.

A 2mp cam is fine for prining on standard size paper

Can you unlock these easily? Not sure if the various unlock stores only refer to conventional non android phones or not.
If so, had anyone unlocked any of these alcatel pop android phones?

can anyone tell me the difference between carphonewarehouse.com/mob…LTI and t-mobile.co.uk/sho…yg/ as in need of basic smart phone while my S4 gets repaired. Nothing but stress phones left with store Monday and still not sent off fuming!

Lol, here we go again!

The average human retina has five million cone receptors which are responsible for colour, also hundred million rods that detect monochrome contrast. The human eye is capable of perceiving detail comparable to a 3-15 mega pixel camera (all depending on one's age and eyesight).

The human eye can distinguish the difference in quality between a 3mp image to a 2mp image on a 6x4 photo print, therefore in order to assemble a detailed mental image our eyes can few happily at 3mp and above.

I got Tmobile pay as you go simcard so that's fine

Nah this is a whole generation on, the mtk6575 chipset is ARMv7 whereas Galaxy Y is v6.

This will play games and apps which won't work on ARMv6 like Temple Run.

Well at least it looks better than the y

what u expect for 3 quid?
quad core?

Gingerbread is ancient and processor is too sluggish really for this to be a true full experience smart phone.

30quid *

On 1st appearance its cute, I was surprised at how nice they looked for the money, its pretty easy to use to begin with ....but then it constantly Tells you memory is full when you haven't even down loaded an app...you have to down load an app to be able to delete the preinstalled apps on the phone but you don't have enough memory to do it. 3 text messages in the inbox and the memory is full again.
If your buying this as a spare great, and bare in mind with phones you do generally get what you pay for.

Gingerbread= FAIL,
On the other hand it does have an SD slot
I'm kinda torn on this, I wonder if there is a CM version for this?

Hmm doesn't seem to be one, I cant even find the dpi of the screen anywhere and the Alcatel site shows a firmware update, but no info as to what it is... gonna have to pass, too many unknowns, and for 30 quid more, your options are much better.

I went to the CW store today at the Bullring in Birmingham and they told me the offer is not available for Virgin Mobile. I told them it is printed on the board and on the website, but they refused to proceed. Is this legal? I think it's fraud.

Not fraud but a breach in trading standards! Call your local office
