I noticed this card was priced at an extortionate £29.99 in PCWorld, and is £5.99 at Play.com. Printed out the Play price to show them and after the guy checked with the manager, it was price matched with the 10% (an extra £2.40) knocked off, so only £3.59!

I didn't think that was too bad for the Ultra2 card, not the best one about, but better than the bog standard one.

Now, I know there could be endless price match threads, but I thought this one was particularly good, so thought I should share

The Play.com one is here:

especially good as you just proved the profit margin on the item to them! five times the price, so if play can afford to them at that price PCW make loads of money on them! i feel sorry for the people who dont know any better!

Yeah, and the Play website says the RRP is £6.49, so if correct, it's incredibly overpriced at PCWorld.

How can a 2gb Ultra 2 SD for £3.59 be voted cold? Anyhoo im looking for a cpl of cards for my digital cameras so this deal is great if it comes off.

Nice find, reserved one for collection, certainly worth pricematching instore just to get one over PCWorld and see the look on their faces with that discount! Gets heat from me.

i'll heat you up for this.
Is it just me or does pcw suddenly go out of stock when pricematcheing reveals these mega savings? :whistling:

So long as your local store and Play have it in stock. It did take a few minutes before the guy came back from the manager, so assume she/he wasn't happy about it. I almost felt bad. Almost.

My local store ended up hiding the cards behind compact flash cards so it looked like they had none left

Picked up 4 cards over the past 2 weeks from PC World with just buying a Nikon D40 SLR they have came in handy

off topic but...

Has anyone noticed that PCworld match ebuyer.com but when they try to acces the website on there PC's they cant so then they cant price match. I went to two branches in newcastle(team valley and kingston park) both wouldnt price match the catridges as tey couldnt check the prices.

Never ever mention price match before they produce the goods

did a similar thing with the 8gb version of this hotukdeals.com/for…561 they had it for £79.99 :w00t:

People probably vote cold because this isnt a deal, it's a price match. If it were a deal PCW would be offering it for that price on the shelf.

Have heard that if you phone up and order they say they cannot access the ebuyer website to confirm the price

Simple case of PC World being way overpriced as they hope joe public just walk in off the street and buy the goods without shopping around and pricing items up

what can these be used in?

I always go down give them the reserved number and wait till they go get it then ask for a price match,Too late for them to say no stock then.

im gonna try this price matching lark tomorrow (today now lol)...

so do i just print out the item page from play.com?

ive reserved 3 of them at my local pc world......

cue MEGA discount 2morrow morning when i pop in......

ha ha ha......i hate PC world....i really do.

It's clearly stated in their pricematch T&C that only one item per customer per transaction so bear that in mind.

Digital cameras, PCs, laptops, some MP3 players, eBook readers - the list is endless really, but basically anything with a SD reader slot in it.

The only 'get out' I think pcw could use for this, is that the play SD card is sold via 'play trade' who are thrid party traders via play. Depends how diligant the pcw manager is or how persistant you are...

Just because your forcing them to sell for this price in no way means there still making money on the item.

Every time you get a deal, you pricematch or you do a buy-one-get-free deal, the amount they discount is logged - the target is 1.8% and they would much rather use that to sell PC's and extras (which the store is praised for) than to sell stuff like memory cards (which makes no real difference to the store). As such the managers HATE price-match, and convieniantly this policy makes them try to refuse them wherever possible.

The discount percentage is more or less accurate. But PC World stores are also marked on profit, or margin as they call it. Which means that by selling this at full whack contributes a lot to their margin figure, whereas selling it cheaply doesn't.

The sheer amount of profit made on cables and so forth is astounding. People just go in, and buy a printer, and then a cable with it. A fifteen quid cable is about fourteen quid profit!

I thought you had to contact the Price Match number before going to the store - not so according to the Sales Advisor. I contacted a first time and the Sales Advisor spoke via a Supervisor and stated that they do not Price Match websites instore and only through their own web site but then further stated this would include delivery of £4 odd. They only Price Match the item not delivery. I then phoned back a second time and again via a Supervisor advised that they did Price Match websites listed over the phone but that it is dealt with instore but at the store Supervisors discretion and he then further stated that the Price Match Promise only applied to their web site but not stores. I pointed out to him that their promise "applies to prices offered by retailers within 30 miles of your local PC World store and the UK websites listed below" to which he replied I know it's very contradictory and you must understand we need to make a profit. To which I exclaimed £24 is some profit and we left it there. So I will try later in store with bated breath........It isn't easy is it!! :x

Margin is also important but (for the store I work in at least), the total amount of money going in and things like PCP etc KPI's are more important.

EDIT - Take the Price Promise, the print-out of the page where you found it cheaper and then stick to your guns.

It took them a while to price match the xbox 360 Sainsburys deal the other week....

Do it. And complain to the ASA. DSG cannot advertise a Price Match policy if they don't stick to it.

Just a thought - today's Boffer.co.uk deal is for 5 Micro SD cards (2Gb each) for £15.48 including delivery. Just ordered some asback ups for camera, DS & phone.

Just been to PC world in Durham and got this for £3.59 - no problem. Took print outs from Play & PC Worlds Price promise page.

Collected mine from PCWorld Kingston Park, the salesperson did attempt to charge me at the Play.com price of £5.99 till I reminded him of the extra 10% of the difference! Other than that no problem or argument.

i just got back from pcworld......with 3 of them !!!!

yay

This could get some flack , here goes !
Get yourself on Ebay and buy these items from ( HK ) China . They are all made there anyway .
I have purchased an assortment of these memory cards and they have all been fine . I will not recommend a particular trader , just check their feedback and go from there .
It seems to me that the rip off merchants in UK may get their houses in order if buyers took their hard earned money somewhere else . It is up to you lot .:x

My brother bought a Sony Memory Stick from ebay .... turned out to be a fake. We only knew because we knew what transfer rates to expect. The ones bought from this particular ebay trader was well below. Hence fake. Many people wouldn't have known and so the feedback would not be a genuine representation of the product.

Buy these from ebay at risk!

Besides ... find it cheaper than £3.59 delivered on ebay and I'll eat my hat!

I called the price promise number. They offered this card at £3.04 + £4 delivery. Bringing it to around £7.

They had the cheek to ask me whether i wanted to proceed with the order! (Play is 5.99)

I asked for collect in store, they replied it's up to the manager's discretion.

I don't want the hassle of going to the store to have an argument. But £3.50 for this card seems to be extremely good value.

And what's with the £3.04 anyway?? Who said GCSEs weren't getting easier in this country??

Just been down and got two of these, no hassle whatsoever done it many times.

just got myself a sandisk 4gb pro duo for £8 in Pc World by pricematching their £49.99 price tag with amazons £13.35... not sure how they made it £8, but i 'aint complaining.

just got the last 3 at PC world Milton Keynes.
Closing for refit so a lot of clearance items in store.

Dab radio £15.00
MP3 players from £2.50
etc

got one for £3.49.
Cheeky cow scanned it in & altered the price to 19.99 therefore £4.49 with pricematch clocked her and she rescanned at 29.99 and cocked up pricematch.
Anyway i hid the last one instore at wednesbury j9 branch if any1 wants it pm me and i'll let u know where to find it
