The Verbatim USB 3.0 desktop hard drive features high performance storage using a USB 3.0 “Super Speed” interface. USB 3.0 offers up to 10 times faster data transfer rates than USB 2.0 (based on USB bus speed) providing ultra fast data transfer on the go.

The USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive can be supplied with or without a 2 port USB 3.0 PCIe Host card, the choice is yours.

If your desktop PC does not have a USB 3.0 port, you can install the host card into your PC to provide 2 USB 3.0 ports giving full USB 3.0 data transfer speeds. An installation guide is provided in the pack.

USB 3.0 is backwards compatible to any USB 2.0 ports on your PC or notebook.

For added security Nero BackItUp and Burn Essentials software is provided to help back up your laptop or PC's hard drive. BackItUp and Burn Essentials provides 3 applications in 1. Back up all your files, folders, and drives whenever you want, or schedule the auto back up to a set time for added security. Nero Express gives you the option to burn your files to CD or DVD, and with Nero RescueAgent you have an option to recover files should they become damaged.

Nero BackItUp and Burn Essentials Software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 (not compatible with Mac OS).

Verbatim Hard Drives also come with Green Button energy saving software. Green Button software suspends the hard drive from spinning while not in use increasing efficiency and saving energy.

There are 3 ‘Sleep Setting’ options. Set the suspend mode to come in after 10 minutes of use, or by increments of 10 minutes up to 120 minutes. Set the drive to suspend immediately by double clicking the Green Button icon on the desktop, alternatively you can set the drive to ‘Never Suspend the disk’.

I've voted cold, because I stubbed my toe this morning.

I'm not a big Verbatim fan, but that is a good price considering the spec.

Not a big Verbatim fan either very disappointed with the speed of my 1TB USB 2 - still this is a good price.

Why? What speed (megabytes/second) did you get? How did you measure it?
(And what did you expect?)

I have one brand new if anyone is intrested £90 plus postage brand new sealed .

Explain to the non I.T. people that unless you have USB 3.0 they can't take advantage of this. They will still get the old USB 2.0 speeds.

Bad experience with Verbatim. currently trying to get my data back off a defunct 1tb which is no uncommon when I google

Anyone got any information on actual transfer rates for this particular drive I realise it won't be bus limited according to the USB3.0 specification but this drive only has an 8MB cache....prolly a pretty slow drive inside(?)

I see you can get USB 3.0 hubs, but these are obviously going to be plugged into USB 2.0 ports. So how, with a laptop, can you get the new speeds?

Can't remember who it was but someone on this forum was so confident USB3 would not take off eating there words now lol

You can't unless you install a low profile PCIe card and your laptop has room for that sort of thing and a motherboard with PCIe slots.

In the case of a laptop the appropriate ExpressCard 54 expansion card will do the job, like this one:

This is not a good price its cheaper at scan £109.99 and as most of us get free P+P we would get it next day even if you dont for the same price as ebuyer you would get it the next day and for that reason its cold.

It's not cheaper £124.44 with the PCie card

Is this without the card or is it as the description is not informative and ebuyer isn't either. heres the title from ebuyer no other information.
Verbatim USB 3.0 Desktop 2TB HDD - PCIe

I would check before ordering this as that doesn't say to me usb3 pci card, that's a bit of a jump but to be fair I'm not even getting a picture there's no description no nothing so unless im having display issues then there's no proof that the card is with it as this is around the price of the drive alone if the drive includes a pci card then i shall order for sure.

It’s a slow ramp up and will probably continue to be so until Intel/AMD finally integrate support into their chipsets.

The product code (47661) on eBuyer confirms that it comes with the PCIe card:

Same issue with the pics,
I have ordered the drive without the PCIe card for £103.91, Scan = £109.99
With the card £115.31 and Scan = 124.44

After doing some checks myself it turns out it does have the the card but ebuyers description was poor but if you have usb3 like i do then the £103 non pci card version is better either way great price by a great company.

The only question i have is does it come with a usb3 lead.

cheers, I wandered what the pci e on the ebuyer description meant tks to you i now know, editing title now to include the card. The manufacturer code on ebuyer matches the one you provided on scan so it does appear to have the extra pci e card.

If you did a search on ebuyer you'd find that they also sell the same thing at a cheaper price without the word PCIe at the end. Kinda obvious it's included, also PCIe has nothing to do with a USB3.0 hard drive, it's not a requirment to use one...as in you don't need a PCIe slot specifically as it's backward compatible with USB2.0

Original Poster

its backward compatiable with usb2 but you would need the usb3 port to get full usb 3 speeds.

Comes with a USB 3 PCI-e card.

lol forum software still broken when you paste lots of charcters it lets you but limits them to ??
Edited by: "dontasciime" 12th Aug 2010

Anyways I was trying to point out that you will need a pcie slot version 2 or above to get full 5.0 Gbps (4.8) otherwise it halves to 2.5 Gbps which is still plenty and far superior to the usb2 we are all used to

http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/9391/hdd1g.th.png

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/1653/hdd2.th.png

USB2 is limited to around 30meg/sec

USB3 (when used with the card) will basically give you speeds 2-3 times that of USB2,
comparable to (e)SATA and internal drive speeds.

Can anyone confirm the spec of the drive inside this? As someone else mentioned I've seen references to an 8mb cache! Would sound a little slow for a 2TB drive(!)
