Just got one myself - reviews seem decent and first time I have seen a 2TB drive dip under £50 ex VAT

Good luck trying to return anything to scam...... I mean scan

They refuse to pay postage on faulty items, and took 2 weeks just to replace

cheers a 4tb nas for £165, wow....almost as good as the £300 I paid (plus £50 M&S vouchers) for my HP Mediasmart server

Don't buy these for the Dlink NAS enclosure recently posted. They will work, but slow down after a period of time. A firmware update is due soon to fix, but that will most likely involve reformatting.

If this is the WD20EARS, run "WDIDLE3" to reduce the IDLE3 timer to zero, or whatever you prefer. These will park the head after 8 seconds otherwise, which could significantly reduce the life of the disk.

Why include this feature? Well, it technically makes it an "eco" type of disk if it's powering down and not using any juice ... but 8 seconds is silly for most users.

How do these compare the Samsung F4 2TB drive? Not much difference on price - not sure which to go for.

If using in a NAS, it will be marginal at best for most. Otherwise, there may be some subtle differences if used as an OS drive - I suspect most will use as storage though.

Good price. I have the Samsung F3, and this one should be slightly faster and slightly cooler.

samsung F4 is better? or this?
didnt really understand what you said =/
il be using it for home storage =/
so which do i go for and why?

right now..
ebuyer - Samsung F4 - £59.99

kinda hard to decide lol. reviews say F4 is good. except for requiring to update firmware. and some 'grey import' (not understand what that is)
WD? i got a 1TB 6 gb/s right now. not having any problems with it. and many good reviews too.

company wise?
SCAN? people say SCAN has bad services.
Ebuyer? my friend said its got good service. he returened faulty PSU. Ebuyer even came to his house to collect it lol =)

so...what do i decide on?

which 2tb drive would you suggest? i still got to populate mine

I've got two 1TB WD Green's in my ReadyNas Duo and they have run for 18months without error. I'm thinking of getting a couple of these to double my storage space as I've filled 1TB quite easilly.

had one in my pc for 6 months, no probs....though have heard alot of people mention this.....guess it depends what you use the disks for.....if for backups then usage should be high for 1st backup and light after that for most people

weird how they take couple quid off and it becomes deal of the century, not as if its free

i'd go for the f4, the firmware should now be uptodate - and if you do need to return it - amazon will be good.
the grey import issue was from scan rather than amazon - their's are likely to be ok

thanks for the advise. il prob buy from ebuyer then, since people say amazon doesnt package that well =)

I bought two samsung F4's from Scan. I don't care if they are grey imports as long as they are new and work. This is a good deal also but I prsonally like Samsung as I've had loads of their drives and they have always been good for me.

scroll down and there it is

Ebuyer have this drive at £65.99.
Dabs have this at £69.99
Aria have this at £65.40
Amazon have this at £65.75

I would say that Scan are knocking off more than a couple of quid which compared to those other prices makes this deal hot.

Now expired - but keep and eye on Scan today only deals, they renew approx 1pm each day and it may well come up again

Still on the Today Only page but now showing at £59.99.

Still a good price.
