+1

Yup, I've seen them in my local and I agree. Seriously poor form to sell as *new*.

Same supplier as TheHut group maybe?

Reconditioned? Eh?...What is that for CDs? Hmmm...

Are these Ex-Juke Box discs that our local "ironmongers" sell amongst the cheap tat?

I know places like Fopp sell naff CDs with no notice declaring "used" - I thought these were returns from their parent HMV or under their "Suck it and See" policy. (I know!...). This seems odd, though - sign of the times when money seems tighter.

As were these but on the sides of the various cardboard boxes they … As were these but on the sides of the various cardboard boxes they informed you of them being used and the staff confirmed for me

Ah okay that is different. I never noticed a notice at my local, however this doesn't mean there wasn't one. I'll check next time I'm in.

Truth is, after buying dozens of CDs online I've seen loads of blantant pre-owned goods being sold as *new*. Usually this entails the pre-owned disc, booklet and cd inlay being rehoused in a nice new jewel case to give the appearance the item is new when it's anything but. Sometimes these phonies even come shrink wrapped! Anyway, some well known online retailers are guilty of this big time. Trading standards should look into this IMHO.

The best way to check if your CD is really *new* is to have a quick look at the disc surface under natural light (near a window is good). This always reveals scratches, scores and greasy fingerprints.
If your disc has a lot of these then your spidey sense should start tingling! Genuine new discs would NOT have been subject to much handling (if any) thus the chance of surface damage would be low.
