@STEVENCOGS94 Also online so popped a link in. Thanks for posting

Thought that was expensive until I realised it is crates of beer.

Asda have the same deal on on very similar drinks. I prefer theirs as they have included Cobra beer in the offer

Asda are doing 24 bottles of Bud for £12. 50p a bottle or 36 for £18

Seems like a reasonable price but some of these are actually cheaper in Tesco on their current 2 for £20 deal.

The Becks, for example, is 36 x 275ml for £21 at Morrisons (this deal), but 40 x 275ml for £20 at Tesco. It's same for the Coors Light (but with 330ml bottles in both stores). It may be worth checking before stocking up!

20 bottles of bud in Tesco for £10 300ml

Is the supermarket drinks thread up and running this year? I've searched for it, but not found it.....

Nothing there which can justify being called 'beer'!

I know im being lazy, but anyone know the best deal on bulmers? Tesco, asda or morrisons?

That's what I was thinking. It's all lagers and ciders. Only John Smith's, which is sub standard.

No REAL beers

I remember when you could only buy the true Becks, not this sh*te sold in the supermarkets now. Yeah...it's cheap...that's it!

As for Budweiser that's always been sh*te! Yeah it's smooth and easy going but so is water. Zero taste / complexity.
There's only one true Budweiser brewery and that's the real one in the Czech Republic.

I won't touch any Bulmers cider since they bought up 'Inches' Devon cider, smashed up the vats & sacked the employers. There are plenty of really good cider makers out there, with better cider.

So what would all the connoisseurs in this topic recommend getting for a nice beer/larger?

And do not say the original Denmark Carlsberg. Or the original Czech republic Budweiser. As that is just stupid as you are not realistically going to get your hands on it.

So what should people who want a nice beer/larger be looking out for to come on special?

If you want better quality...then true...you're not going to get 36 bottles of the stuff for £21. Perhaps think about getting less in terms of amount but getting more in terms of quality. It's getting increasingly difficult to choose lagers that truly come from different parts of the world in supermarkets now, as most of the international labels stocked have been purchased by the big two or three brewery's. I used to like Birra Morretti and Staropramen but both are now brewed cheaply in some random place in the EU probably due to parent owners procurement teams cutting costs.

As for what's available in supermarkets, I think Pilsner Urquell is currently still decent. Sainsbury's do a good value own brand Czech 500ml lager that's brewed by Staropramen in the Czech Republic however not sure if that's still the case now. I think Staropramen has fallen to the big boys so that also may have gone down the pan now in terms of quality.

I think a good indicator is that if you pick up an international lager that actually says it's brewed in the country it has supposedly come from, then it's still probably one of the more interesting ones.

Yup, as soon as its brewed elsewhere, its using different water. Different hardness, different minerals, etc. so the final product will be different. Hell, they could even be using different yeasts.

ASDA also doing 3 for £21
Bigger packs as well
Asda fosters = 12 cans
Morrisons = 10 cans

Asda strongbow dark fruit cider 3 for £21

go to ASDA & choose some of the 660ml bottles in the 4 for £6 offer. Ashanti, Warsteiner, Hophouse 13, Estrella, etc.

50p a can is my target price on Strongbow, got 2 x 20 cans for £20 @ Morrisons last week.

Same here anything at 50p and less is on my shopping list. Waiting for a combo with Checkoutsmart or similar to make it even cheaper like those Amstels at 37p a can!

I always look out for the Heineken deals that supermarkets do from time to time. A perfectly decent lager, providing it is brewed in Holland. I've had cases for fiver from Tesco in the past (a few years back now!) and three for 20 quid from Asda earlier this year.

Unfortunately, the likes of Stella are rubbish if brewed in the UK even though they are decent if you're in Belgium.

Just a pity that the supermarkets don't do deals on some of the 'proper' Belgian beers. I suppose it would be too much to ask for Waitrose to sell off Tripel Karmeliet cheap.

Need to be a bit careful when buying Bud (and some other Beers) by the Box as its normally there 330ml Bottles, some of these deal boxes are 300ml or slightly lees, so bit of homework before buying.

Brilliant, the irony, by saying hobgoblin is decent. If your going to say about decent beers, say about ones that are actually decent.
