Any place that can even discount more than 5-10% off a diamond has already overvalued it.
If you buy any item of jewellery from a high street store its near enough guaranteed that you will most likely lose money over time. Just spend a few hours researching and you'll save a few thousand £ in the long run.
Read 5 articles (not affiliated with jewellers) at minimum about how diamonds are graded and some places where you can buy diamonds which you can narrow down by cut, clarity, colour, carrat etc
Even if you took a whole day out to do it you can save yourself ££££'s and worthwhile if you want something of good value.
Majority of high street operators are 75% sales tactics and 25% knowledge, its just that some customers have even less knowledge than that 25% and thats where they get you. The amount of times i have had to call BS on store clerks trying to over-sell me something is why i do most of my shopping online these days.
Real example is i know someone who paid £2.5 high street ring which was advertised as 50% off (£5k rrp) real valuation put it at £900. And someone who paid £6k for a similar ring and real valuation at £10k
