These sort of smokers are not very good. They are open at the bottom, and don't seal well around the joints and doors, so it is very hard to control temperature. I had one years ago but because of the temperature control issues it was stressful to use and so after a few uses it was thrown in the back of the shed and eventually thrown away.

I'm planning to buy one of the Callow smokers when they come back into stock.
Yep, completely agree. Ok for something that needs a short smoke (fish, chicken portions etc) but impossible to keep an even temperature for any length of time.

Is this gas, electric or charcoal?

If you after a cheaper option than the Weber Smokey etc then you could custom build one. Search Mini Weber Smokey on youtube there's loads of info on there.

That's an interesting project. But I reckon only viable in the USA where you can buy a Smokey Joe Premium for $40 which is about £30. The cheapest I can find a Smokey Joe Premium in the UK is over £60, add on the cost of all the other parts and I think you would better off just buying a Callow Smoker for around £100.
