This deal is based on 2 adults flying out to Milan Bergamo from London Stansted on Friday 4th March returning on Monday 7th March. You will be staying for 4 nights in the 3* Hotel Tre Rose which is in the Nesso area of the Lakes.

Trip breakdown

You will leave Stansted early morning on Friday 4th landing around 11am giving you the whole of the Friday, you will pick up the car hire at the airport and drive to the lakes which is about an hour and a half drive.
I've chosen the 3* Hotel Tre Rose as it is ideally located to explore the lakes, it has free car parking, excellent reviews and a beautiful view over Lake Como itself.
You will be leaving late on the Monday taking off around 1830.
If you can't get the Friday/Monday off work there are later flights on the Friday after work hours and flights back Sunday night however these are a little more expensive!

I visited the lakes a few years ago and they're absolutely stunning, I strongly advise getting the local ferries from town to town, all of the towns are unique and beautiful!

Price breakdown

Flights to Milan booked with Ryanair - £79.96 - £39.98 each

Hotel booked with Expedia - £110.80 - £55.40 each

Car hire booked with ArgusCarHire - £18.55

Total price for 2 people - £209.31

Total price each - £104.66

This deal only includes hand luggage however you're entitled to 2 10kg cabin bags plus and additional handbag so this is plenty for this trip however if you feel you do need to check in a large case this is an extra £30 per case so pack wisely to keep the cost down!

I have chosen the Fiat 500 as this is a nice small car for those small Italian Lake windy roads! You can choose a larger car but I've found in Italy the smaller the better!

Looks amazing!

I think I've said before, but I would Gold Car like the plague. Nothing but horrific reviews for them online. We got a car at BGY from Avis and it was barely more, with the knowledge that there wasn't the possibility to be completely screwed over on the fuel tank policy.

*avoid Gold Car

I stayed in the Tre Rose in September last year for one night and had a lake facing balcony just like the one in the photo. Its a nice little hotel. Right next to the road and a tunnel (which they don't let on in their photos), but we didn't find it too noisy.

Sounds terific. Very tempted.

Why cant this be during half term

I agree re Gold Car!

It looks lovely, so cheap for the view and location! Glad it wasn't too noisy though!

That's what you get for daring to have children. Holiday companies shouldn't be allowed to get away with it

I always get completely confused, so will have to look up to confirm, but they have a few options which are poor choices for the customer. The best choices are always "return to what it was" ie full to full. IIRC, they insist on either the full pre-purchase of a tank at their prices, with no refund or another one which I forget at the moment (ha, so helpful). You must also take their insurance option which is hard sold at the counter and they will not recognise fully comprehensive external insurance, even if it legally covers them. Finally, I've heard the CS is awful and lines take hours and are deliberately slowed in order to charge late return fees. Basically, nothing good ever!

is there any long weekend on 4th March? I am confused

You'd be heading the wrong way if you ended up in Milano on your way to the lakes from Bergamo!

Oh really, I'll have to look into policies before I book car hire in the future we've only been stung once and that was in Ibiza where they charged us for a compulsory cleaning fee I think it was it was in the t&c's so couldn't even argue!

You can go past Milan or up via Bellagio which is defo the route I'd take, much more calm and scenic!

I'm sure I've used argus loads of times don't think I've had a problem with them

Hi,My boyfriend and now love the look of this deal and went to book straight away. only thing is when we got on the expedia website and searched to fly to bergamo it only brings up hotels in that area not further afield. The hotel and flights are still available so any tips would be great!
Thanks

Book flights on the Ryanair site, the hotel on Expedia if you type in the hotel name and it's in nesso and go on skyscanner and search car hire from Bergamo airport

Never really understood this poor argument. Airlines etc are not in the business of providing 'fair' prices, they're in the business of making as much profit as they can. The market will clearly allow for prices to be increased during peak times, so they charge what the market can take. They don't owe fair prices to the market. I'm a parent too, but it's not something I begrudge airlines for.

Me neither. They're not an actual car rental company, just an agent, like Expedia is to airlines or hotels.

Will be cold and potentially wet. Only a few hours from the alps. Looks like a lovely hotel and it's a tick list for many so voted hot.

Wow, compulsory cleaning fee, they are having a laugh - nearly all the villas we've rented there over the years involve some form of dusty road! Think I better check the small print for this years car!
