UPDATE: 22/09/2009...THE £29 ROOMS ARE NOW GONE AND THE ONLY ROOMS LEFT ARE £49..

.De Vere has breaks at Barony Castle on Monday 28th, 29th and 30th September (next week) at only £29 per night for up to 2 adults and 2 children! Be quick though as these £29 rooms are limited and there are not many left!

Its a lovely hotel and not far (bout 30 mins) from Edinburgh Zoo and Edinburgh itself.
We have stayed there loads of times on these deals. Its in a quiet village of Eddleston, just 4 miles out of Peebles itself.
The cost is £29 per night so if you went all 3 of the available nights its just £87 for up to 4 of you!!
Great for a short break to take the kids to the zoo or more suited for couples as its quiet, remote and relaxing.
You have use of the small indoor heated pool, sauna and gym, free Wi-Fi
Rooms are very nice and comfy.
For £29 per night, its a bargain. Dinner can be bought at £15 pp for a 2 course meal and breakfast at £7.50. They do however phone the local pizza shop and have a pizza delivered for you if you wish!!!

I have just come back from this region, and glentress and InnerLeithen has some of the best XC mountain biking in the country. An idea to combine this stay with some decent riding!?

Sounds like you liked it then:whistling: If i could get them 3 days off, I would be there myself for a chillout!! I booked them at £10 a night last year and booked 4 weekends.....totally relaxing. Its where the Scottish Ambulance Brigade hold their training days. Its got some assault courses in the grounds that they use to teambuild and our kids thought they were great fun!! Try walking the ropes and beams, etc. Really good fun and free!

yeah we all loved it and recommended it to my mum and dad to stay there while the deal was still running in January.
They loved it too!!

Didn't realise that they had an assault course otherwise we'd have left the kids there all day lol

****** - just clocked this and the price is now up to £49 per night. Am off next week and this would have been great.

Have also stayed here before - just a nice distance away from home and out in some beautiful countryside. Probably worth the £49 but I'd rather have paid £29. C'est la vie.

Why expire..... Still Wed left at £29 as other dates have no cheap rates left.

Those pictures make it look sooooo much bettter than it actually is. We stayed there for £10 one night in January this year and the room we were in was so dated and horibble. Plus the corridors smell of that greasy kitchen smell that you get from a hotel that serves terrible food.

Save your money!

the hotel is worth £30 a night i got it fora tenner and was well happy,u can use there mountain bikes for free, big trail there for them and the swimming pool is good, its a good place to relax .

Totally DISAGREE........... we also got the post Christmas booking for a weekend at £10 a night. In fact we manged to pick up 2 weekends, but gave one to friends who wanted to sample Scotland. We got an excellent twin room, big bathroom, satellite TV etc etc....and we also struck lucky and got a SUITE as the second room, the Reivers Suite, separate sitting area, HUGE bathroom, nice views....Blooming marvellous. The food was also very good, although drink prices are on the high side.

Add to this a decent gym, nice pool, excellent walks within the hotel grounds and very friendly staff....what more could you want for under £30 a night per couple ( and kids if you have 'em )?

Great Deal, thanks

Just no plzing some people is there?? I loved it and so did my family who we booked weekends for at the £10 rate...wish they would bring that back!!

hi, my girlfriend and i stayed there a few weeks back on a travel zoo deal.

The rooms are quite dated (we stayed in standard double room) and do need a good facelift to even come up to standard with the likes of new premier inns....

The hotel i.e. reception, bar, restaurant however look like they have recently been updated and are very smart. the gym and swimming pool are also of a good standard. The grounds around the hotel are good for mountain biking and walking although someone earlier made reference to an outdoor activity area but when we had a look around it looked liked it was closed down..the were a few tyres and ropes but the zip wire looked like it had been taken away.

The hotel is in a really nice location and only about 30min drive from edinburgh or there is a bus within walking distance from the hotel. Its also rather random as the hotel is used for paramedics training (they have their own course rooms) thus you will often see a bunch of green boiler suits wandering round the hotel! not that this was an issue but just incase u drive upto the hotel and wonder whats happening!

i think devere need to probably give most of the rooms in the hotel a facelift soon and to be fair if they do i would quite happily return and pay a decent price for them but just to warn anyone if they are visiting on a romantic break, the area itself is really nice but you get what you pay for with the rooms...

shame it too far away

Cool, thanks ... gorgeous place!

The outdoor assault course is for team building exercises... they do those courses some weeks, Monday - Friday. They don't leave the zip line up...since it is quite high...and last thing they need is some little kid getting hurt ( H&S rules....lol ! )

The paramedics you saw are because the Scottish Ambulance Service have training facilities here...again Mon-Friday.....maybe they come in handy for any kids who DO get onto the zipline???:whistling:

Our rooms were absolutely spot on...as were those we gave to our friends...so maybe you hit on an unfurbished room, which is a pain I'd admit...they must be undergoing a refurb programme and we hit lucky, perhaps?

However, comparing it to a Premier Inn doesn't quite ring the bell....I use Premier Inns regularly on business purely cos they're very clean, identikit rooms with good facilities....but I've yet to be lucky enough to stay in a PI in the middle of 25 acres of beautiful grounds/ woodlands, with a gym, swimming pool, free bikes, free coffee machines dotted around ( Mon-Friday only! ).

I'd happily enough cough up £85 for a night at Barony Castle given its facilities and setting...so anything from £29 to £49 is ( IMHO ) a blooming bargain..... Just wish we could get the time off to stay there......

I ran an event here (overnighter) and would never use it again. Rooms are VERY dated and a few of our delegates found the staff rude and unhelpful. I myself found the staff unhelpful, when I could find staff to ask anything too!! An elderly delegate found a condom at the bottom of her bed...YUCK!

Used by alot of NHS staff for conferences so it reminded me far more of a training venue rather than a hotel.
