are these unlockable as i would like to put a giffgaff sim into it

Can they be use for war driving on unsecured networks?

I don't know much about these but my brother paid £50 for one last week.
I might consider this as my Ipad's WIFI only.Shame there's no Ipad / Android tether app without rooting.

pretty sure they are, seen it when i was looking to do mine (new mi-fi)

I suspect this would be a better buy, even at the higher price.

I already have a Three mobile broadband pay monthy sim card and USB dongle. Would this MIFI device accept my existing SIM card?

decent price but probably better spending a bit more & getting the newer model
i got one of these a while back when they were £50
it does it's job ok
i'm fairly sure they are unlockable as i recall reading about unlocking on the internet

if you have android 2.2 then you don't need to root as there is wifi hotspot/tethering, not available for 2.1 and below without rooting. I have a htc desire(non-hd) and have tried connecting my psp, ipod touch 1st gen(not tried the 4th gen which I recently got) and dsi all connect fine, don't have an ipad to try but don't see why they wouldn't.

Using your Giffgaff sim in this way is against their terms and will get you a slapped wrist and eventually banned.

Its a shame as I would really like to tether my desire.

I'm currently using sn Xperia X10 which is due a 2.1 upgrade at some stage. I think Android 5.8 will be out before Xperia gets 2.2.

This just works like a Wifi hotspot or a home wifi rooter so any wifi enabled device should be able to connect to it including iPads. This is an ideal solution for anyone with a wifi only iPad who needs connectivity while out and about.

if you have an android 2.2 based phone(desire, desire hd, nexus one etc) with a tarrif that includes a data plan then this is not needed, on the other hand if you have android 2.1 and below or other phones that do not offer wifi hotspot/tethering then yes this is perfect(as long as you have a data plan).
