3 PAYG SIM Preloaded All-in-one (£15) £14.34 Use abroad! @ Amazon

***UPDATE**
Price now increased to £14.34 due to being popular.. was £10.17 - However still a good deal to use abroad if the country is included.

Confirmed by 3 on their forums - Hi, With PAYG roaming is activated straight away as you can only spend what you have available. It’s only contract customers that have roaming restricted to begin with. On PAYG you DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT 30 Days !... only contract sims

Sim will start from when you insert in phone, so you can buy now, use later..

The 3 all-in-one 15 PAYG sim card includes the addon and has 300mins, 3000 texts and unlimited internet all for 30 days.

The reason for posting is this is usually £15, but it is currently £10.17 and the other main reason is if you are going abroad and the country is included in the Three feel at home offer then you could use this sim card for internet, calls and texts abroad at no extra charge !

Which destinations are included?
As a Three customer, you can use your UK plan allowance or Add-on allowance, just as if you were at home, to call and text the UK and get online right across the USA, as well as in Austria, Australia, Denmark, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Macau, the Republic of Ireland, Sri Lanka and Swede

Are you sure you don't need to purchase an add on for this to work abroad? on my previous Three data SIM's that came preloaded with data (1GB,3GB, 12GB) all the included allowances would not work when roaming and a 'proper top up' was required (I am going back 18 month here)

If this is as it appears then seems like a perfect Feel At Home roaming deal for those going abroad!

EDIT: It certainly appears to do as described....what a great deal for travellers to have ready for their hols. A couple of negative comments from buyers but clearly some are idiots expecting unlimited internet for life or such like

You just need to contact three or register an account and you can use your allowance. If you want to call say USA numbers when in USA then you would need an extra topup credit as the allowance is for calls back to UK

The deal is correct, but as previously said calls and texts are only included to and from the UK. By this I mean if you are in the USA, for example, you can call or text between the UK and the USA, not from one USA number to your 3 number, or vice versa. Works at home too, but no tethering allowed when you are abroad, even if your plan allows tethering in the UK.

Does the preloaded allowance start when I get the SIM, or does it start when I active it?

Is this 4g?

I got some of these last year when a similar deal was about.

Tried one last month, and pleased to report you get LTE speeds

dont you have to wait 30 days to be eligible to use allowances abroad?

I believe this is true.

Hot

Going USA next week, would 3 let me use the data allowance there or is the 30day thing strict

Yes 30 days..

I think you will find that the 30days only applies to contracts.. not pay as you go :-)

From the 3 site:

We recommend that you keep your account topped up with some extra credit in case you need to:make an international call or use your phone while roaming

Doesn't look good for roaming

Already activated, but you could call 3 if you wanted to but they say its already done

I'm struggling to understand the last comments, if the sim is only valid for 30 days but you you have to wait 30 days before using it abroad then there'll be no allowance left when you get there?????

OK missed the updates whilst typing .... was looking to get one for trip later in the year but no good if it's already activated :-(

Done this previously-30 days start from when sim is activated.i activated sim 40 odd days after I bought it,and went to Dublin inside 30 days of activation. No issues -all u need to do is activate data roaming manually on smartphones and manually search for 3 neywork at the ' feel at home' country .
No tethering was allowed, but let me use phone minutes and even skype/facetime calls

Cheers OP

Thanks, that makes sense.

Three state that PAYG SIMs are instantly ready for roaming so assume (but could be wrong) the same applies to this,

SIM onlycontracts and contracted phones need 30 days before roaming can be enabled.

I just got back from Washington DC, used one of these over there. Worked perfectly, unlimited data. I made sure it was working before I left but didn't need to do any more than put in it the phone

Wish the data sims would come down in price :-(

worked for me in Hong Kong. Just used it is normal

hope to use it in hong kong on stopovers on my way to and from the philippines , dont go till next month so hope it activates when i 1st use it..

Price increased

No sorry you can buy the sim card and it wont start until you use it. The sim card allowance does not start until it is first insert into a phone at which point the free allowance will start including using abroad. Therefore like me i have purchased one to use later in the year.

Is there anything documented online to confirm this?

I can't see the point in having the 30-day rule for contract customers but not PAYG customers. Contract customers will still have to pay for the full duration of their contract, but with PAYG you can just pick up a sim and throw it away. Seems counter-intuitive.

Original Poster

The reason is on contract you could run up a huge bill and they cant take any money, the first month will be when they attempt to take a direct debit. With PAYG however you have already given them the money :-)

Hi Guys,
Last month i got this SIM for £14 from Amazon for my trip to Italy. It's a steal at this price, even more so with 4G being in my area.
The main purpose was to use my package abroad and i have to say great service from them.
i activated the SIM 2 days before my holiday. popped it in and it worked. It seems to be activated from the time it's dispatched though in my experience.
Service while i was in Rome was far better than in the UK. In my experience, speeds for Pay and Go customers is throttled, compared to a family member who's on the one plan with the same phones on the same firmware right next to each other. i received around 5Mb while in the UK, 10MB while in Rome despite the site saying i will probably have reduced speeds. Mainly used it for google maps and some random surfing while on holiday but also XBMC. It was amazing. Calls had to be made with the +44 prefix to go through. Texts didn't.

I would say I'd sign up to the one plan if it wasn't for the price hike as i was impressed with the service. Highly recommended to people.

p.s. i think this is well worth it over giffgaff. I am still a giffgaff customer but only just, until my vodafone contract expires and i move to tesco. i think giffgaff's service is very poor and really don't offer anything good compared to other companies anymore.

I am using it right now in Western Australia. It works but the speed was quite slow. I haven't missed any email, but I haven't been able to watch any YouTube due to the low speed. 3 PAYG itself is good value though for low users.

Shame....gone up to 14.34

Does the credit expire after say 6-12 months if you don't use it?

does it come with free wifis?

damn... this would have been perfect but price has gone back up

If I bought two of these and went to the USA would I also be able to use the call allowance to call between the two mobiles?

Need one for brazil when the WC is on but this cant be used there, can it?

I take it this won't work in a MIFI router?

EE does not have this limitations and offers free calls in a lot more countries than Three, from what I know.
