Before anyone starts complaining about buying a cheap cable for an "expensive" phone/gadget, I am looking for a longer cable because the original Apple cable is very short.

This has been discounted from £8.54 to £1.99 for 3 cables, which makes them over 66p each, which is cheaper than the 1m pound land ones!

These crappy chargers broke my last iphone. Defo best to avoid

These can be very, very dangerous if not official. As in setting on fire etc.

their £1 in poundland

Avoid.

I thought it was the actual plug that was dangerous not the wire

Both can be. I purchased 3 wires from eBay, 2 burnt out completely and the 3rd left half of it plugged into the device when pulled out. I now see no sense at all risking an expensive item with a cheap charger/cable.

I've been using these for quite a whole now. No problem like that. They've just stopped working. Never burned for me.

Given that there have been numerous problems (not just mine) I no longer see the point in the risk of a cheap cable when you have paid hundreds for the device.

They are abbreviated becomes they're you silly Apple people!

I bought two poundshop ones, both broke, heard stories of them breaking people's phones also! Not worth it! Not slamming your deal but heads up stay clear of these! £15 for an official wire however ridiculously expensive is worth it in the long run!

Of course, very dangerous.

What piffle. I have some magic beans if you want.

The danger is the iffy chargers that dont comply with eu safety regulations. Not a cable that carries 5 volts at a single amp.

Once again, you get a few op's vote negative and everyone just hits cold without really thinking about the deal posted. Even if the quality is not as good as apple originals, look at the price. Good spot op, hot from me and ordered. (_;)

Sorry but that is rubbish. I was using the cheap leads with an official charger and as stated before 2 burnt out and one broke in the device. You get what you pay for.

They last a couple of weeks max! There crap.

Bought these for my daughter and they all lasted her about a month, we finished up buying an original and she has the same problem of the cable not being long enough but is having to put up with it now.

No ones heard of a USB extension cable.....?

So many variants of they're in this thread. I'm impressed.

Not taking away from the deal, but recently had experience of lightning cables after buying a few of the cheap ones. I paid £7.99 for a flat one which was 2m long and about £2 for three on eBay which were hopeless. However, I noticed that the iPad actually lost power if you used the ipad when plugged in and charging with. Any of the cheap leads. although it would charge if you didnt use the ipad at all during charging, but very slowly.

What I found out though from that font of all knowledge, Google, is that there is a small chip in the lightning end of the cable, and the IPR for the chip is you guessed it owned by apple. There are numerous Chinese imports that replicate the chip. The purpose of the chip "allegedly" say Apple, that it regulates and controls the voltage going into the device. By looking online I also found out that if a cable is not from either Apple or a company that officially licences the chip, the operating system can prevent it working. So when IOS 7 gets released i dare say they will add in something that tells the iPad/iPhone to stop charging if an original or licensed cable is not plugged in.

Not wanting to pay top whack for a very short Apple lead, I found a 3metre Belkin lead in Tesco, Officially licensed from Apple. It cost me £24.95 but charges faster than any of the cheaper replica leads, and easily as quick as the original even when the ipad is being used, is way more robust than the original and it has a licensed chip. I know Belkin do a shorter one which is still a bit longer than the original Apple lead and costs about £15. Griffin also do a longer lead that uses the licensed chip, Apple even sell this one through their online Apple store.

I would have probably posted deals like this as well until I found out why the things didn't work as well as the original. I was blissfully unaware that a cable actually had a chip in one end! (And of course, Apple will be doing this in the interests of safety with the bonus that you will end up paying for either the licensed or official cables).

Last time I checked Apple were swapping the fake/cheap chargers with an original for a discounted price if you swapped them through the Apple store. I believe it is the dodgy chargers that cause the majority of the heat/fire issues that we sometimes read about.

Hope this helps.
