3-year Family and Friends Railcard for £70 saving £20

Found 26th May 2015
As it's currently half-term for parents with school children, this may be a useful reminder of the benefits of buying a 3-year railcard which means you can save £20 off the cost of buying 3 consecutive yearly ones (and the hassle of renewing).

There are also special notes regarding children’s tickets:

"Children aged under 16 at the time that the Railcard is purchased may still travel at the discounted child’s fare throughout the validity period of the 1-year Railcard, even if they become 16 years old during that time or, for a 3-year Railcard until the child turns 17.

If the only child in the Family & Friends Railcard group is aged under five years, the Railcard holder must purchase a discounted ticket for that child in order for the Railcard holder(s) to qualify for the discount on their tickets."

It appears that they are slow to update their Terms and Conditions because the present ones state that are valid up to and including 17 May 2015.

Is this not the standard price for the 3 year card?

Yes, it is, but I didn't even know that this existed before today so I thought it was worth sharing. As railcards keep increasing in price year-upon-year, this should prove inflation-busting for those who could easily recoup the cost of the railcard in less than 18 months.

I got this deal last month. Essentially 14 months for £20. A better deal but, unfortunately, expired now.

I got my last railcard using Tesco clubcard points. £15 of points for a 1 year card. The offer is on at present (link below). Again a better deal.

It was the two free month deal (same as the mirror one). It was in the paper the weekend before last, apparently, so likely missed it unless it is available on the mail's website.

Normally on offer for £20 a year randomly.

I go the daily mail one for a 2 month trial, then offer for 12 months for £20

Oh! I will have to look out for it then thanks

With thanks to HUKD member aquaclaw who posted 5 months ago, I just found out that you can get a choice of 1-year railcard for only £10 (which includes the Family and Friends Railcard) if your partner is a gold card (annual season ticket) holder. See:
hotukdeals.com/dea…431

Thanks also to HUKD member underground who pointed out that the Annual Gold Card travel area had also been enlarged to include Birmingham and Cambridge for instance: nationalrail.co.uk/sta…pdf

Hope this helps somebody!

Thank you so much for that info, it was just what I was looking for
Shame I missed out on the two months, then a third off a year's card promo, but 15% off is better than nothing..

Cheers Excalibur

.....I just hope this works,

You're most welcome! The 15% reduction will definitely work as I tried the railcard link without clicking directly from my email. Enjoy your holidays!
