£30 of train tickets from RedSpottedHanky for £10 in Tesco Clubcard points

Comrades,

Is this the best way to spend your hard-earned clubcard points? I believe so. As train tickets are more or less the same price everywhere and you never really get a good deal on them, getting 3x your Tesco points in CASH* is pretty amazing.

Why settle for wasting your money on pitiful 2x value for iTunes vouchers (which you can often find reduced anyway) or 4x for Pizza Express when they're got a DFS-style permanent BOGOF deal on?

(*that's this more or less is, so long as you ever buy a train ticket)

Now that airmiles have gone bad, I felt the best deal to spend tesco clubcard points. However I don't travel much on trains.

Head added.
Great deal, takes me forever to get £10 in clubcard points unfortunately
I did this for last weekend, very easy and hassle free.
Backed up with family n friends rail card also available from Tesco its even better. That's if you've got a family or friends of course.
Best deal on Tesco CC in my opinion. Saved me a small fortune in train journeys recently.
Is it valid for local travel as well? Like BFD-WAT?
Valid for every rail journey in the UK I believe. Why not check out on the redspottedhanky website first just to make sure your preferred journey is available?
This is perfect - I need to get my daughter home from uni for a week in November. Regular return fare is £37.95 using her student railcard (also bought with Tesco vouchers) so with this deal I pay less than a tenner in cold hard cash. Thanks so much OP.

me too
I saved over £100 this summer thanks to this deal. I was buying £16 worth of tickets for only £3.50 in Clubcard vouchers (with a railcard). Happy days! Sadly, I too find it takes forever to get £10 worth of points. And Tescos are making it harder to find ways of getting them, so they can supposedly reduce their instore prices (not that I've really noticed!)

If you've got a pile of clubcard vouchers, this is a top, top deal.
Good deal - but take care. You've only got 6 months in which to buy the tickets:

redspottedhanky.com e-vouchers are valid for 6 months from registration. Remember to think about when you plan to travel, to ensure it is still valid and that tickets are available.
I did this a few months back. Quite painless, and remember about the PlusBus scheme at the same time.
i did this when buying my train tickets yesterday. despite what they say about 6 months expiry, they actually have no expiry (well, on my account it showed up as dec 2020). agree with the points OP made.
How long does it take from ordering on tesco website before you receive the voucher?

I did this for the first time earlier on this week. I set up an account with RSH prior to ordering the points - if you have the same e-mail address for both clubcard and RSH then the process was dead easy. I received an email from Tesco about 15 minutes after placing the order via the clubcard website which explained the process that was happening. The voucher was in my account 24 hours later and ready to use which I did 10 minutes after! I did not find it any hassle whatsoever. The prices being quoted were about £5 more expensive than going direct to eastcoasttrains in my case but I thought the deal still represented good value. I am expecting them by first class mail today or tomorrow, though you can collect in the station. The voucher had an expiry date of end of 2020.

Wish I'd known about this before. Thanks for the heads up OP.
Been using this for a while now - totally hassle free and voucher always emailed within 24 hours. I have had to give up my restaurant vouchers to subsidize my daughter and her boyfriend seeing each other at uni - young love eh?
Yep, use them a few times. Great customer service. When they first launched, I bought a train ticket for £90.80, I had £90 of tesco vouchers so needed to pay 80p by card. It wouldn't go through because it had to be at least £1, so I rang them up and they just credited my accountwith a £1 voucher to use.
Have used RSH with clubcard points for some time now and all my points go towards this.

Just check the rail websites for any deals as these aren't covered by RSH's search. For example, London Midland are currently doing a £10 promotion (The Great Escape) until 5th Nov but you can only buy tickets through their website.

Similarly, we went to London a couple of months ago and ended up booking via the Virgin site as through this you could purchase a return ticket that was tied to you travelling both ways on Virgin and was cheaper than any offer on RSH. I just keep the credit on the account for times when no offers are on.

Both the RSH and Trainline sites didn't show this because, with them, you can select tickets for each part of the journey independently.

Aside from that RSH is great and I'm booking another ticket via them right now!

I've just gone online to book a ticket and have found that my balance is now valid until December 2020.

It was until the end of this year only last week when I made a booking but has since changed.

Even better value now!

I'd like to see that confirmed by Redspottedhanky, though, because they can change the expiry date at any time, and the Tesco Clubcard website clearly states that there's a 6 month time limit on using the e-vouchers.

Too risky for me.
pLEASE READ t&c AND REMEMBER IT TAKE TIME FOR VOUCHERS TO BE TRANSFERED ACCROS.
Heat as I like the company name. Always makes me think of Tuberculosis.
Are these really not transferable? So it means that the particular code will work for particular person only? Or will they credit the account? Any thoughts?

Thanks sounds good. I have done the same, setup the redspottedhanky account, then ordered some from Tesco. Received the email in 15 minutes, now just waiting for something to appear in the new account. I hope they come through tomorrow as I am planning on using them on Sunday.
If you get a £30 voucher and buy a £20 ticket, does the £10 difference remain in your RSH account, or is it lost?

Can anyone confirm please?!

The £10 or remaining amount will stay on your account, they will just adjust the remaining credit on the voucher
24 hours have passed since the order was placed yesterday and so far nothing has appeared in my redspottedhanky account. I guess it does say in the T&C's that it could take upto 48hours so I'll have to wait a little longer. :-(

So far (since last night) ive received confirmation from Tesco (both emails) and just received the "thank you for registering" email from RSH.

No voucher applied yet, but i think its a bit early for me to expect it.

Ta - mine has now appeared!
Thanks for the deal OP.

I've just traded £10 worth of points for £30 worth of train vouchers. The hardest part is on the Tesco side of things; setting up the account, then setting something else up which I thought I'd already done, then matching addresses (which they ultimately got wrong anyway), then trying to work out how many points I actually had (the number they first show you on the account page is for that month and not overall), then adding the train vouchers to my basket (again), then having to go back and get the clubcard voucher codes and finally I got a confirmation.

Now to wait for the voucer which I hope runs smoothly as I need to book tickets for next week before the prices get ridiculous.

Thanks again!
Got my evoucher 45hours later but luckily the prices I had saved hadn't gone up in the meantime. Booked tickets straight away with no hassle.

EDIT: I received an email telling me the evoucher was ready 3 hours later than it was actually in my account.

just waiting for my e-voucher to hit my RSH account from tesco

this is such a great deal

I have managed to get £75 tickets for the family and it will only cost me £30 of my hard earned cash

Happy Days
Tesco took 24 hours from order to confirmation to process. Then another 48 hours for the voucher to appear in my RSH account.

Spoke to RSH and was told Tesco send one spreadsheet each morning with accounts to be credited. So timescale probably dependent on spreadsheet cycle, and on staff being in RSH office. My order was at the weekend hence why it may have taken longer than usual.

Great offer.
Wonder if you can use other people's Tesco vouchers?
From 1 December 2011 your Clubcard vouchers will be worth 2x their value for redspottedhanky.com. Every £10 in Clubcard vouchers will give you £20 worth of e-vouchers.
