Yeah, imo anyway. They are both set in space! Both political, with diplomacy and conflict at the forefront. Both have season long story arcs rather than the Star Trek adventure-of-the-week format. Just feel the same to me. Personally I always preferred the Star Trek shows to Babylon 5, and likewise prefer the new Battlestar Galactica to the Expanse. But The Expanse creators have got to be applauded for giving us a grown-up SF show. Certainly worth a go.

Been wanting to watch this for ages. But alas, it's all available on Amazon Prime, which as the op says...people who can access this deal will already have.

I think it USED to be on Netflix, and now it is on Amazon Prime Video.
Is it really a deal if you paying a monthly subscription on top of it?
Stunning visually, but complex story line. Heat

Really? I thought the CGI to be a bit cheesy and unrealistic. The camera quality is on point though.
i lost interest at the back end of season 1 unfortunantly :/
Vvv
This is a really slow starter, you really need to grind through he first three episodes but its worth it.
Incredible show. Just stick with it and it goes from decent if a bit complicated and uninspiring to something really really special. The story of how it was cancelled and saved by Amazon is interesting too. I promise you'll end up loving it.

Agreed. There's a couple of episodes in the middle of season 3 as well which blew me away with their story telling and how well they were put together on a technical level, great stuff.

Nice! Just learn't that there's a new series. I'll have a look at the amazon story! similar thing happened to Lucifer with Netflix lol
Season 2 episode "Home" is one of my fav episodes of anything ever!

I love this series so much and there's a lot of great 'advice' already mentioned. The most important is slug it out through the first few episodes. I watched the first 2 and it didn't really do anything for me and it was about a year before I picked it back up, and then something just clicked in episode 3 (or 4, can't remember the specifics).

I've found some of the visuals to be stunning in places but more from a "oh that's cool!" point of view rather than photorealistic CGI - a few examples are the 'taken apart spaceship', 'the invisible wall' (sounds morbid but I watched that a number of times) and all the beautiful blueness in 'Home'. If any of that makes any sense to you then kudos, I've kept it vague so as to not give any spoilers.

Love it!

The trailer and release date for season 4 is hopefully being announced at the expanse panel at SDCC this Saturday.
It's about the closest thing I've found to Firefly in terms of a similar universe. Focus is more on the politics of the major powers and the top brass, but in amongst it you are following a pretty cool crew just trying to get by.

Same here. My mate kept telling me how good it was but I knocked it after the first episode. It was only until a year after getting my OLED and my first 4k tv, I saw this was available in 4k on the prime video app. Glad I stuck with it!
Can’t wait for the new series!
