30% off TV package for 12 months for existing customers if with them a long time!

Found 14th Aug 2014
Called to cancel my Sky as wanted a better deal. The first time i called i got a really rude bloke who just offered me the flimsy deals on the website so i asked for my MAC code and left it.

Called back the following day, spoke to a really nice guy in the Glasgow office and, after some pushing, i upgraded from basic to full entertainment package with sports and movies, and got 30% off my tv package for a year!!!

It was one where he had to put me on hold to ask his manager, said they don't give it out to many people, but if you've been with sky for 3years+ with no payment issues they want to keep you as a loyal customer so give a special rate!!

This was in addition to the free broadband with sky sports deal :-)

they are offering 50% to there existing customers at min but the 30% is standard offer and it is the first day you gave notice hold out.

Agree with this, I kept refusing their offers last month then they called 7 days before it was due to be cancelled and I got my £61 package for £21.50.

Worth persevering for bigger discounts.

Real bs get the best discount.
Admiral have so many subs who also abuse their position when claim time comes

ha.. no jokes... i got 75% discount last year when i left. am paying 10.75 a month for everything except sports.

Noooooooooo!!! Bummer!!! Feel like an idiot now

im so naff at this deal sharing stuff!

I have had 50% off for the last 2 years, never accept a first offer

I always hold out for 50% - i've done it for the past 5 years running - all channel packs for £35.00 a month

i'm going to have to remember to do this next year .. agreed a new 12 month deal on everything just last week as well and just managed to keep my discounts i've had the past year. they must think i'm easy

i suppose i'm too chicken because i've got the internet and landline in there as well ..

anyone know the best number to call please?

30%??? I always get 50% should have hang in there for another day or 2 whilst THEY call u back

Always get 50%, I just wait for the phonecall from Sky, usually takes 1 week after cancellation.

Although not the best deal you could have got - thanks for sharing, as I have recently given notice to cancel and was given approx 30% discount and refused.

My contract finishes on 28 Aug so expecting a call any time now and good to know I should be aiming for 50-75% discount based on other comments.

PS - does anyone know when they do call back and offer an improved deal, whether I can add movies and get the discount on that additional package as well (I am currently on the Entertainment package only).

Oh man. I caved in @ 25%

You dont need to say your going to cancel, I call up on a yearly basis and simply talk to the guy and ask what he can do for me..... I usually get between 30%-50% off. Each time they do renew the contract so your with them for another year. I don't think I have paid the £12.50 for HD. I think ATM my full Sky package with phone and Internet is about £58 or somthing, once it goes up to full price I will simply call up and see what they can do, never once have I said I wanted to cancel.

I have expired this as its obviously not an amazing deal really! The cold is embarrassing, im so shyte at this! But thanks all, good conversation thread, now I know I can get a better deal next year. I'm determined not to get fobbed off again!

And donkii - thanks, you've made me feel better! I'm paying the same for the full package, phone and internet, least im not a complete overpaying mug if its what you've got too!

as others have said, better offers available if you hold out (and want what they're offering)
but, you wanted to cancel with them as you didn't want to continue - and they convinced you to stay for another year and add full entertainment, sports and movies....... who got the best deal out of you and sky?

I'm paying £32 for TV, line rental and fibre broadband.

we were never really going to cancel. My bloke is moving in and demanded the full package with all channels plus BT sport etc - it was always going to happen. But read on MSE that the best way to get a good deal is to say you're leaving and ask for MAC code so they take you seriously

despite my tongue in cheek comment above, want to help...
you're obviously not too worried about losing sky (you originally called to cancel completely) so, assuming this is within the last week or so, ring and cancel as you're within the cooling down period for services entered into over the phone. explain that you have discovered most people in your position have had significantly better deals offered and you feel taken advantage of (especially as you were convinced to upgrade your package and got a lesser discount)

Edit....(and delete the comment above, lose your bargaining power if they read these forums! Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about difference between discounts. It's your blokes money..isn't it? After all, he is demanding )

no BS last year , i managed to get 8 months free TV inc sports after i cancelled, I got a call back within 2 days.
you just have to keep pushing.
having said that, this time around they did not call me back after i cancelled and i have now moved to Virgin, cashback of £220 from quidco was a nice touch.

They don't always offer you anything.

I'd been a subscriber for 2 years and they originally didn't offer anything. Had to cancel and wait about 2 months after they cut it off before they gave me 25% as an offer.

I then received 50% off about 6 months afterwards.

This was for the full package (sports and movies) but no HD.

I haven't gone back to them, I've gone for a different supplier.

It's very customer specific and does also depend on who you speak to when you phone up as to what offers they give you

You got a deal, you're excited about it and thought you'd post in it order to help others. At the very least you've reminded us to check our subscriptions and try get a deal so thank you, I gave you some heat.

To be honesty i'm about to move house and my deal has expired was thinking what to do next and thanks to you raising this deal everyone has helped me out.
I'll cancel tonight and wait for a call

Ta OP

Ring again. Tell them you've had a think and are not happy with the deal you were given. New rep will be able to offer you further incentives.

you've been had! I always get between 50-75% off every year. cancel and then ring them as a new customer

i found that if you get your 50-75% discount 1st then ask "what if i add (movies/sports,multi-room,etc)would i get that at that price too"
it has worked everytime so far with me

I phoned up tried to get a discount no dice they offered me £2 a month saving..... bye lol

just say no...... even better deal

Got the family package (£33) yesterday with hd for £8.25pm. Don't need movies or sports so that will do.

What's a MAC code, please?
