I would imagine that most of the 'young uns' on this site wouldn't have a clue what these things are! :w00t:

Dunno whether its hot or not to be honest!

I'm with cold, must be 5 years since I used one !!

do people still use floppy disks i no i don't i tossed the drive out

Well no new PC has floppy disks now, I'd be surprise if they do.
If you got an old build PC with a floppy then it might be useful for them for backup purposes only. I cant see what other use they have.

Not sure if this is a hot price...They are well out of date and most shops are desperate to get rid of them

Hot if this was 1998 and not for 2008 ;-)
now where did I put my digital camera that took these
dealtime.co.uk/xPF…FD5 oh yeah went years ago

Ron Dennis might want some - they are a bit short of them at Mclaren I hear...

i still use them at work for old pbx's perhaps you could by them then sale them 20 years latter on flog it??????

wow - Camera Resolution 0.31 Megapixel

I thought they destroyed all floppy disks back in 2005?

actually to be fair they are quite useful when dealing with BIOS and that.. don't want to go and burn an entire CD just to update a 0.8mb file to the BIOS.

I bought some floppy discs about 4 years ago , 500 for £5 !!

I sent them to Africa for use in older systems being used out there .

Currys should be giving these away , NOT selling them .

Damn, you got my hopes up but they’re out of stock. :x

I still use them for BIOS updates if the Mobo doesn’t support other methods and I have a Partition Magic Boot Floppy which has saved me a few times.
Also useful for installing AHCI or RAID drivers with XP if you don’t want to take the time to slipstream them.
I wonder how much 1080P video footage you can fit on a floppy; anybody!

uhhhhhh

ive got a box of about 50 of them which used to be like 50 disks just to install one game think it was called pc genious was about in the 1990s still use one now and again not to transfer data but some bios updates and other things require a bootable floppy disc which in every case i always have to get a lend of a usb one as they're that old lol

I'd be surprised if it was even a second.

this kid i know used to take out the brushed steel slider from the floppies that didn't work anymore ... to make a
sorta bookmark and he also used some for his monuments - he also took out the thin floppy inside to use as ribbons. LMAO crack up thinking about it.

Erm im lost for words strangely:)

Don't want to get caught up in a hot or cold debate, but actually most people running XP will have no option but to use floppy disks if they want to configure their PC with a RAID array.

Also good for holding answer files when carrying out unattended OS installations. Plug and play floppy drives are pennies and can be life savers.

God this is terrible you are all talking about 3.5 inch disk like me and my schoolfriends talked in the 70's about the old 8 inch floppies that had just gone out of fashion and been replaced by 5.25. I feel old:thinking:

Come on now, I can remember without difficulty unfortunately 5 1/4 inch floppies and dare I say 8 inch floppies. Too old, must be past it!!

You beat me to it:thumbsup::thumbsup:

man, i remember upgrading to 3.5"
then when zip-disks came out, i bought a bunchload
120mb was huge back in the days before cd burners were cheap enough to buy

cant say ive used a 3 1/2 floppy in like.. 8 years though

You can get about 0.25 seconds of 50 Mbps HD video footage on a floppy.
If you’re watching a HD porno film from floppies it’s one of the rare times when premature ejaculation is a bonus.

OOS at Currys :x
but don't despair cos they are currently available from ]PCWorld at same price
but it's an "ending 97p" price = probably no stock anywhere. ::-D

There's a complicated method of making your own XP install onto a DVD which includes the SP2 and all the latest updates that will allow a RAID setup. Had to do this recently when I tried installing my OS onto a 500GB drive.
