30 Paper Straws £1@ Poundland

Pack of 30 paper straws. I have tried a few different types and these are really good, they easily last all day. I have left them in a drink overnight and the straw was still fine to use the next day. The only downside is they come in a thin plastic wrapper. But it is a start and pretty good value.

I suppose this platic straws nonsense gives us plebs something to distract ourselves while the banks and global corporations continue to suck the wealth out of our society.
what is wrong with drinking directly from a glass or cup?
Cool. Maybe with 30 of them I'll actually be able to finish a McDonald's milkshake.
These suck!

Yes it's a start, shame about the plastic wrapper.
These suck!
Check their reduced Christmas stock section, they had packs of 24 paper straws for 25p.

I bet you are kept very busy on this site, what with it basically being a tool to promote deals that at some point benefit the banks and in particular the global corporation who manufacture the majority of the stuff on here. So thank you for taking the time to knock this and call climate change and the use of fossil fuels in plastic nonsense.

Payed 25p the other day they were in reduced Xmas stock.

Interesting point - McDonalds advised that by placing straws behind the tills (so customers now have to specifically ask for one), they have saved 10% of the 650 million that they use in a year in the UK so those people must be drinking direct from the cup.
There's always a "Straws for life" alternative: cobivi Stainless Steel Straws Reusable 8 Set, Metal Drinking Straws with 2 Cleaning Brush for Smoothie, Milkshake, Cocktail and Hot Drinks amazon.co.uk/dp/…PJC

Using straws was actually advised growing up in the 90s when drinking juices and well anything apart from water to protect your teeth.

IMO singling out straws is strange, there are more needless plastics within food and goods packaging.

And while the fishing industry continues to pollute and destroy ocean ecosystems (but it's all the straws' fault).

Nope been to a couple of different McDonald's everytime I've order something with a drink I've automatically been given a straw without evening asking. 10% more than likely comes from the fact that kids can no longer grab a handle full of them when they are messing around in McDonald's.

It's all relative, what we do and buy, shows what issues people care about. And that drives political decisions.

This is my experience also. They don't wait for you to ask, they give them automatically.
I love trying to save the planet, so rather than just drink out of a glass, I create even more waste with these.
What sort of wax is on these paper straws?

I didn't realise hotukdeals now let 5yo use this site
I'll stick to 500 plastic straws for a pound until the paper ones can price match. Had my box of straws for a few years, used mainly for model making with the grandkids.

I'm not saying do nothing, and every little helps, but a lot of people seem to be deliberately ignoring their much more damaging daily choices in favour of patting themselves on the back because they got a paper straw.

You're missing the point. Another commenter further down gets it, and sees that patting yourself on the back for using paper straws instead of platic ones is meaningless and futile enviro-lipservice. The plastic straws we dispose of in the UK are most likely going to end up in landfill, not floating in the Indian Ocean to appear on an episode of Blue Planet 3. It's possible that the net carbon impact of paper straws over plastic is worse.

Ear wax
Anyone wanting to save the planet with these are just clutching at straws
You missed the reduced ones.

Oh and landfill is a great place to dump them then, "most likely" so by your own admission, not all! I am wasting my time as you clearly do not get the whole point. Neither of us will be around in 100years but I am bothered about the mess I and others leave my kids and grandkids to deal with.
After buying these OH found 80 in Tesco for 2.00 and i couldn't find any last time I looked grrrr
