I have a really old laptop barely worth £20. So thought I would use the trade in at Currys this afternoon @ Leicester Fosse Park.

The store assistants were amazing. Highlighted they are currently given an extra £100 off if I take a 6 month interest free deal on the laptop...so I got it for an amazing £799!

Asked and it seems to be nationwide on trade in with finance.

I went in to price up a new Mac and was offered the standard £100 or £200 depending on purchase price as well as 6 months interest free. But there was no mention of the final boost up to £300?

Seems like it's for laptops over £1000 - Laptops under £1000 are limited to £100 trade-in plus potentially an extra £100 for sign up for finance.

Lol well I am just chuffed I got my deal I guess...needed an upgrade for a while and I was going to buy a budget laptop but this should hopefully last a fair few years!! I wouldn't have gone for it at £200 off but it was too tempting at £300...

I've been looking at an MSi GE63 8RE on the Currys Ebay site, but Currys only offering 1Yr warranty whilst MSi (on their website) and other retailers say that it comes with a manufacturers 2Yr warranty. They have yet to say why they only offer a reduced warranty, so will not be buying any laptop from Curry's again! Rip off!

Currys warranty in this case doesn't matter, what really matters is the MSI warranty cos it is MSI who will honour the warranty if something goes wrong.

Yes, but Box.co.uk have a Medion Erazer X7859 with a 3Yr warranty and one of the USB ports is a Thunderbolt 3, and that is also £999. Any experience with Medion?

Couldn't tell you tbh as I'm not an expert in gaming laptops/pcs, but google shows plenty of good reviews for their brand, however depending on what you're gonna use it for bear in mind it has 25ms response time

For a detailed review though; Tech Radar gave them a 4/5 star review, only main caveats being the battery life and the fact that it's a 17.3" screen and apparently the graphics card is outdated (bc its built with a mobile graphics card chip) so though it'll play games in native 1080p according to their tests, they only got 41fps in Total War: Warhammer 2 and 54fps in Middle Earth: Shadows of War,

They say this is bad, as soon more heavy demanding future games may be beyond the capability this laptop provides.

Other than they do say its definitely worth the money and compared to the Asus Strix Scar II it basically provides but this Medion does it all for ~£400 cheaper (bear in mind prices may now differ as the review was done in Oct 2018) techradar.com/uk/…9/2

Wow thanks. That’ll certainly help to show them if they have no idea when I go back tomorrow!

Do you happen to know it’s definitely national and includes macs too? The bloke I spoke to didn’t realise that the £100/£200 discount was dependant on the cost of the laptop purchased so I’m beginning to think he didn’t really know what was going on!

Yep, the in-store employee confirmed it was national and not specific. He also said it didn't include macs (only Windows devices) but on this topic he didn't seem too sure.
Yes it's available in all stores, increased trade in is available when taking out any finance option through creation credit.
Laptop doesn't even need to be working for credit sales.

Different terms apply complete for non credit sales which will have lower trade in value.

Mac books are also included upto £200 off depending on cost of new mac book purchased.
A great deal and way to get rid of an ageing laptop. But I don’t think I’d make use of the “Discount” seeing though it comes in the form of a store voucher. I struggle to find anything worth buying in Curry’s/PC world for the last 20 years.
So what would the saving be if I traded in a non working laptop and spread the cost of a £1000+ new laptop? Thanks in advance

From what I was told you could use the voucher towards the purchase of the new laptop. Although (see above) the sales guy I spoke to was counting down the minutes until 6 o’clock so maybe somebody could correct me if I’m wrong?
Can you use the student discount on top of this ???

The OP screenshot suggests the discount is actually applied in the form of a Gift Card by the Store - to pay towards your laptop there & then.

Yep essentially you take the Laptop in...they run a check on it to see if it's working....mine had a crack and major scratches but guy said as long as it works then it can be used as a trade in.

They then ask you to chose a laptop which I already had in mind...put through the finance part of it via a few questions and use the Voucher there and then in store to give you £300 off the laptop.

Not sure if you can hand in and use voucher later sorry! Also I think as people have stated may not work on Apple Macs

Medion designs were always a little more chunky, just behind the cutting edge but good value for money. Looking at reviews of the laptop you are looking at seems this has not changed since Lenovo bought them out in 2011:

This is wrong.

Curry's have bought out warranty. You do not have any warranty with MSI, HP, Dell etc. They will all refer you back to Curry's.

Yes, it does need to shed a few pounds but I don't mind that. I prefer a laptop with a thicker and more sturdy lid unlike those flexible lids you might get with some Dell's and HP's. Although this laptop only has 8GB RAM the rest of the spec either equals or exceeds that of the MSi GE63 8RE so I might go for the Medion.

Had assumed you were not aware Medion were also owned by Lenovo as had seen this quote from you last week:

"I won't be purchasing this laptop given that it is Lenovo and I have had recent poor customer service regarding my Motorola mobile, which is Lenovo."

My lenovo laptop was sent back to them due to some of the keys not working, 3 weeks later they sent it back saying water damage, not true and ended up replacing keyboard myself for a tenner. Just would not trust their warranty any more. 3 weeks to check a keyboard, took me 10 mins to change and I am no expert, like you say poor service

Yes, I am aware that they are owned by Lenovo, however I have read better reviews of Medion laptops. Must still be some German work ethic and quality remaining in the company.
Wouldn't buy a chocolate bar from them. Wait until the device has an issue, then you'll see why it was so cheap.
How much do they check your old laptop?, mine is 9 years old - perfect working order but needs new battery
They say it has to be 7 year old maximum but idk if they really care i've got this old hp pavillion over 8years old i'll go and see if they take it
I'm thinking of getting the legion y540 or the omen not sure yet
Can someone please confirm, if you can get £300 off for £1000+ purchase ?
So i went there spoke to the guys and told me that if you take the trade-in and cost spread formula (the one that give 300£ discount for the laptop over 1k) the trade in laptop could be any age and more or less any condition. If you just want a do trade in (why would you want to just do that since you can get 100£ more off if you do the credit) the laptop has to be 7 year old or younger.

Are you talking about Cirrys?

Interestingly I just registered the device with HP....Directed me to HP Total Care which let's me add an additional 2 years warranty for the laptop at £101....which doesn't seem terrible compared with currys £10.99/month charge for warranty...
