The original 1957 film, with the usual polish and extras from the good folks at the Criterion Collection...

Product Description

Delmer Daves directs this 1957 Western starring Van Heflin and Glenn Ford. Hard-up rancher Dan Evans (Heflin) is holding ruthless outlaw Ben Wade (Ford) at gunpoint waiting for a train to Yuma where the authorities have put up a $200 reward. However, Wade offers him $10,000 to set him free; the bounty will ease his financial difficulties, but Wade's offer will set him up for life. Thus begins a cat-and-mouse wait for the 3:10 train with Evans' wife pleading for him to take the money and save himself and Wade's gang attempting to free him.

Synopsis

In this beautifully shot and acted, psychologically complex western, VAN HEFLIN (Shane) is a mild-mannered cattle rancher who takes on the task of shepherding a captured outlaw, played with cucumber-cool charisma by GLENN FORD (The Big Heat), to the train that will take him to prison. This apparently simple plan turns into a nerve-racking cat-and-mouse game that will test each man's particular brand of honour. Based on a story by ELMORE LEONARD (Get Shorty), 3:10 to Yuma is a thrilling, humane action movie, directed by the supremely talented studio filmmaker DELMER DAVES (Jubal) with intense feeling and precision.

Special Edition Features

  • New high-definition digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack
  • Alternate 5.1 surround soundtrack, presented in DTS-HD Master Audio
  • New interviews with author Elmore Leonard and Glenn Ford's son and biographer, Peter Ford
  • PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by critic Kent Jones

Agreed, was really looking forward to the remake and it was trash, waste of a good cast.

I must remember to go and stop being a fan of the remake, and to unsee that 7.7 rating on IMDB.

Some mutt on HotUKDeals says it’s “trash” and “a waste of a good cast.”
Remake was brilliant tbf. Some great performances.

No worries mate, hope you enjoy it.

Oh, and there's no shame in liking (or disliking) the original or the remake, so let's play nice and have a great weekend!
People never comment that they like both. Too many people have a good old days mentality. Don't. Also the remake is far superior. In acting, production values, direction.

Definitely wasn't trash. Just because it wasn't as good as the original doesn't mean it wasn't a good movie.

Brexit to a tee...

Too many nostalgics waxing lyrical over how something empirically inferior makes them feel fluffier than something more developed, refined and improved, ‘just cos it was more original.

IMO it was, we all like different things mate, not need to be a tool about it. I don't dislike remakes in general, just didn't like this and I am a huge Crowe, Fonda and Bale fan. I appreciate you like it, just don't be patronising to people who didn't.

Go easy on the self pity.

You weren’t attacked.

YOU stated that the movie was trash.

YOU failed to state “in my controversial and possibly subjectively unique opinion” first...

YOU issued a blanket judgement.

My sarcasm was directly targeted at that reality. Had nothing to do with patronising people who didn’t agree with my subjective opinion. That was your failing.

No harm done. You’ll learn for next time. You’re welcome.

And for the record that dose of sarcasm was also nothing to do with patronising people of a different opinion, rather adressing those defnding their own momentary daftness as if their human rights have been violated.
