Why voted cold? Seems good to me.

Looks a good deal to me too Thanks for the post! The DVD player looks exactly like the Yamada at SVP.

good deal

No Digital Tuner.

Hence why it is cheap, most every HD TV out there now has one built in.
And personally an HDMI DVD player is just a DVD player wasting an HDMI port which you will need when you upgrade to the DVD's successor.
Or if you buy a PS3.

Yes it does look like the Umax DVD-7500X DivX DVD Player & CD Ripper at SVP

but it isn't the same version of that player, that one hasn't got HDMI output and doesn't upscale.

It's a excellent deal though, voted hot.

yeah but alot of people like me run several devices through a surround sound A/V Reciever so will run a digi box through that. Looks like a good deal to me if only i had a few hundred quid spare...:x

So its not got a freeview tuner, no big deal. Most PVRs have one now, as do lots of DVD receorders and if you have neither of these £10 gets you a secondhand box no probs. For £350 is good value in my eyes, might not be the best available but again £350.
Not sure what your meaning Haggis about being a DVD player wasting an HDMI port.

I agree about the freeview, I have a twin tuner PVR, no TV has one of those that I know of.
The DVD player is an upscaling model, it will convert it's output to a 720p or 1080i resolution through the HDMI port thus taking up the one HDMI socket on the TV. But you can conect it normally via component or scart as per any other DVD player. Some upscaling DVD players will also upscale via component ( leaving the HDMI free)as well but I don't know if this one will.

To be fair, however you connect the DVD it's a 'free' DivX, XDiv player thats not bad at all.

Good deal, especially with the HDMI dvd player, voted hot.

But I will not be getting this, because there seem sto be too many bad reviews for the Digimate.

what about the "Yamada" DVD player? has anyone tried it? i have had Yamada DVD players before and they have never been great.

possible deal clincher on this one for me.

An inbuilt tuner is ok for now, but to get BBC HD etc, and HD Freeview in the future (if it comes), you wouldnt use an inbuilt tuner anyway. Its more flexible to upgrade with an external one.

am i missing something?? its coming up at a total of £440.07

and yes, a digi tuner inside just means more things to go wrong. like wise i never got a tv/dvd combo!!! and will never get a tv with the tuner (until the switch off that is!!)

You have to buy as a package via the page in the link the Op posted, not via the individual products. On the original page just click the red buy button under the 3 blue information icons and you will get the discounted price

I got the same model from Aldi for £400 in November last year and ended up returning it. The picture processing is awful, even spending hours setting it up right it is absolutely terrible in standard definition, WAY worse than a half decent CRT, its way too bright, has no backlight control and don't even think about checking out SKY news ticker at the bottom of the screen either.

I'd really not touch it with a bargepole. This is the reason you pay alot more for decent LCD TVs.

What did you buy instead?

Talking to an engineer from Pioneer a couple of weeks ago who was testing HD freeview. Said to be with us b4 Christmas.

That doesn't matter anyway, digiboxes cost £30. HDTV's with freeview cost hundreds more. You do the maths. Also these HDTVs with inbuilt freeview tuners cant handle HDTV broadcasts, only SDTV broadcasts. ;-)

Edit - just noticed this info has already been posted - lol

I know boxes are cheap, but it saves having boxes and more wires under the TV.
Especially wall mounting, you got to watch the wires, looks retarded with them all over the place.

TV's with freeview dont cost hundreds more at all. I dont know where you got that from at all. Even a lot of the cheap ones have built in tuners.

Upscaling, i just dont really see much point in.
Its a stop gap till people upgrade with HD DVD's.
Its fine but it will get relegated to the bin by the end of the year.

Since MisterX had one, then its basically only him with experience so everyone else posting here dont matter, since its crap apparently anyway.

yeah with samsung its only about 10-20 of your english pounds more for the same model tv with freeview.

as for wires, i am currently trying to think of an ingenious way of hiding them. if all else fails i'll paint the wall black to match the wires!!!

A few questions on the DVD player. Could I plug an external HDD into it via USB and play using the remote? If so, would it be capable of playing high def material such as .ts files or h.264 files?

Most TVs I have seen are at least 100 pounds extra for the freeview version, why is this when a freeview box is 20 quid?

Anyway, if you go to this url

avforums.com/for…985

there are some reviews and some large pictures of the TV at all angles

I'd be amazed if this were actually true. 32" Samung with inbuilt freeview for sub £400. Where?

Only took this with my phone camera and strung it together quickly but you can see clearly all the inputs.... Click for a big pic ...

You are comparing this TV deal, with a Samsung.
A Samsung isnt more expensive, simply because it has a digital tuner.
Its just simply a better quality panel, the digi tuner itself, doesnt add much to the end price of the Samsung.

Thanks to Lee` for the reminder.

Some info on the DVD Player part of the deal. Impressed to see it does up-scaling.

• Formats: DVD, MPEG4, CDR, CDRW, Photo CD/DVD
• Output: 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p
• Data Inputs: MS, MMC, SD, USB1.1
• Progressive Scan
• Audio: Dolby Digital
• Interfaces: Composite, S-Video, RGB Scart, Y/Cb/Cr , HDMI
• HD Up scaling
