34% Discount for PrePay Oyster card users who are Railcard Holders (inc Young Persons/16-25)

Most people don't know this but if you have a Railcard your Oyster card will be capped at 34% less than normal. Just take your Railcard to a LU ticket office to get the discount applied to your oyster card permanently.

If you hold a National Rail Railcard, you can get an Oyster card and have the Railcard discount entitlement loaded on to it. You can then use Oyster to pay as you go at adult-rate, but your off-peak Oyster daily price cap will be 34% lower than the equivalent adult-rate cap.

Holders of the following National Rail Railcards can benefit from the discounted daily price capping:

* Disabled Persons
* HM Forces,
* Senior
* Young Persons.

You will need to get an Oyster card and have your Railcard discount concession loaded on it. This can be done at

* Tube station ticket offices
* London Overground station ticket offices
* Some National Rail station ticket offices

Railcard discount for oyster prepay
Transport for London have introduced a discount daily price cap for holders of National Rail Railcards who use Oyster pay-as-you-go. The eligible Railcards are: Disabled Persons, HM Forces, Senior and Young Persons.

You save 1/3 on the standard adult daily price cap. For example, it will cost £3.10 for a day's unlimited travel in zones 1 and 2, instead of the standard £4.80. The discount only applies to off-peak travel (which I think is any time after 9.30am).

To activate the discount you need to get it loaded onto your Oyster card by taking it, with your Railcard, to any tube ticket office.

It's a new scheme so when I asked the staff didn't know about it, but you can point to the details on page 14 of the new Guide to Fares leaflet available at the station or from here: tfl.gov.uk/ass…pdf

Official MoneySavingExpert.com insert:

Just wanted to add a couple of extra details. If your local national rail station is listed here, you can also register your railcard concession there. Below are the peak and off-peak price cap limits with the railcard. Note again that the discount only applies to off-peak travel.

Travel in --- Peak --- Off-Peak

Zones 1-2 - £6.30 - £3.10
Zones 1-3 - £7.50 - £3.50
Zones 1-4 - £8.90 - £3.50
Zones 1-5 - £11.30 - £4.20
Zones 1-6 - £13.30 - £4.20
Zones 1-9 - £14.50 - £5

not sure but u can always ask

yh been using this last year.

STUDENTS
if you are a student and going to go uni this year go and open a natwest student account. you get the 5 year free rail card which is the best freebie you can get compared to other banks, and then you can use it to cap it to your student oyster to get 34% off pre pay aswell as 30% off weekly and monthly

Brilliant, didn't know about this!

Fantastic, going to London next month for definite so I can get it loaded then.

I didn't know about this either, looks great, thanks!

Annoyingly, it does apply to Network Railcards.

I'm confuesd by this thread and the old thread posted above.

If I get a railcard, I save each time I use my oyster card, is that correct?

Everyday I travel from zone 6 to either Zone 1 or 2.

Will I notice a saving if I take this offer up?

Kids under 15 travel for free anyway.

How much more of a discount do you want?

Well hows about 34% for me and the misus...Kids going free is not a perk in my book as they don't earn......

I had the YP railcard discount applied to my student oyster card.

I used the student oyster to give me the discount on my weekly and monthly travelcards, and the YP discount on my daily tickets

Can't see what would be annoying about that, unless you meant doesn't apply in which I would be in total agreement.

I assume then that this is not applicable for a 'Network Railcard' ?

Oh ****! Yes, sorry I'd somehow managed to write does rather than doesn't - must be going senile!

How do you get the daily unlimited travel ticket? Online (on Oyster), I can only see unlimited travel for a minimum of 7 days.

whats the step of linking two cards?
i cant find any details on websites

Fantastic scheme, but try finding a tube station with a ticket office where this can be done. They simply do not exist!
