You can't do instore for this item as it is classed as a large item requiring courier delivery

This one is a push along, not self propelled, and it is possible to get self propelled petrol powered mowers for around £99 in sales. I would only use petrol mowers because I can't stand dragging a cable around and the battery ones aren't quite up to the job. But the weight of the engine makes them an effort to push so I would recommend self propelled if you can find one for a bit more than this.

However, it is a good price for the 143cc engine alone, especially if it turns out to be an indestructible Briggs and Stratton one. I may buy this for a fun summer project adapting the engine to power a kids go-kart.

Voted hot for the engine.

Hmm, interesting link, Argos seem to be having a few problems and that reveals they use Websphere.

Went out of stock as I was ordering!

I would stay well clear. These type of cheap mowers have chinese made engines (not B&S or Honda) which parts can only be got from manufacturer's directly (at a high price and that's if they have them in stock) and so servicing centre's won't generally touch them. We get many of these type of machines been scrapped after only 1 season. If you spend a little bit more on a reliable make with a proper backup service then they usually prove far more cost affective.

Any recommendations Wayne?
Already had my fingers burned by buying a Mountfield Sp470 from B&Q. Belt cover lasted about nine months and B&Q won't entertain a refund.
Quick search shows 470 has a terrible record for longevity.
I'd prefer a powered model if possible. What's a sensible amount to spend for a reasonable cost/quality balance?
Alternatively, would a service centre fix my Mountfield? What would a new belt cover and general service cost?

How about this? The specs look great and I've been tempted but have resisted so far:thumbsup:

I would normally expect Mountfields to be good. If your lawn is big then an appropriate mower is going to cost. For smaller lawns (less than 2 tennis courts) then a reasonable value mower is McCulloch, which use Briggs and Stratton engines and although some of the cheaper ones are not steel chassis they are easy to fix and spares are easy to get.

I think McCulloch is a brand that belongs to Electrolux.

As any fule kno, a "Lawn Stripper" is a feature to help you take your mind off the mind-numbingly boring task of grass cutting.

Not a feature to be used when the wife or the neighbours are looking tho':-D

false economy these cheapo mowers are absolute **** the engines will burn out after a summer.

buy a honda it will last at least 10 years
