Acclaimed by critics as France's answer to HEAT, 36 stars two of the countries most accomplished actors. Leo and Denis are cops, each with a very different work ethic. Thrown together on a trying armed robbery case, the pair will embark on a journey that will force them to question whether they are any different from the criminals of whom they pursue.

Excellent movie, have watched it twice. There's bound to be loads of great 'world cinema' movies out there. Anyone give me a clue where to look for their reviews??

good list-"tell no one" is a great thriller-harlan coben is one of my favourite writers and he refused to sell out to hollywood and let them rewrite parts of his story so took far less money to have the story made true to his book in france. filmed and released as "ne le dis a personne"

the lives of others-depressing but brilliant.

Thanks for that guys, I've seen a few of those but will check out the rest.
You should watch,
Flame and Citron - WW2 danish story of 2 hitmen assassinating nazis
Harry, he's here to help(or with a friend like harry) - cuckoo in the nest French thriller
Chaser- Korean serial killer movie-brill
Das Boot, you're bound to have seen that.
Malena- Monica Bellucci ;-)
L'appartement-(Monia Bellucci again, remade badly by Hollywood as Wicker Park
Others I want to see-
Just Another Love story
Yella
Anything for her (pour elle)
Requiem
Legacy
KM31
Say Yes

love this film... thanks for this!

Add to that list:

L'auberge Espagnole (aka "Pot Luck" in English)
Les Poupees Russes (Pot Luck 2)

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly aka Le scaphandre et le papillon

One of the best films I've ever seen.

Great film... and lovely on blu-ray! go get one

the best thing about this film is Daniel Auteuil! watch any film with him in. "Hidden"/"Caché" is spellbinding! no wonder he is known as the French De Niro!!

Why not posted in entertainment?

Ne Le Dis A Personne (Tell No One)
Crimson Rivers (Les Rivieres Pourpres)

even Crimson Rivers 2, while being fluff, was totally enjoyable.

Empire of the Wolves was half decent too... Remember that the French in many ways are like the Japanese... they don't mind making far fetched fantasies that are implausible but entertaining.

Brotherhood of the Wolf (La Pacte des Loups) is another absolute classic with Daniel Auteuil.

Not sure which or how many of these are available on Blu Ray...

I've had some decent deals on Amazon.fr for French releases, some of which have English subtitles of late, including Crimson Rivers, 36 QDO, MR73...

If you're interested in DVD movies, though, then there are a wealth of them. La Haine is a grim drama, but sheer brilliance.

Taxi is an absolute must for me... comedy, action, Marion Cotillard in a compromising pose.
Taxi 2 was more of the same, and Taxi 3 and 4 were total fluff but if you enjoyed the prequels, you'll simply be entertained!

Also one of my all time favourites (available on French import BluRay I think) is Nid de Guepes (The Nest). Think 'Assault on Precinct 13' but good.

Also La Mentale (The Code) I thought was outstanding.

Delicatessen, Amelie, A Very Long Engagement all go without saying.

I love French cinema!

Great film. And he drives around in an Alfa GT, which is always a good thing. Some other cracking films listed in this thread too - my favourites from those listed are "Tell No One" and "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly".

Another fantastic French thriller is director Cedric Kahn's Feux Rouges (Red Lights) with Jean-Pierre Darroussin.
