This is my first post so please be gentle!!
I went into my local sainsburys today to check out the "red" 37 inch tv i spotted on an earlier post and saw this Toshiba one next to it.
Have checked the sainsburys website and it's actually more expensive on there.
A bargain for a 37 inch 1080p!! have just got it home and set it up and it looks awesome
I've been looking for a new tv for ages!!
I also got 782 nectar points.

Yeah I went to get the Red 37" TV and with the Toshiba next to it the Red did look budget so I bought it, great looking TV not sure if the spec is good but cheapest I could find was Tesco at £528.46. The model No is 37XV553DB.

Where did you find it on the website? Also, what store did you get this in? Is it nationwide do you know?

i spotted some in Edinburgh

Original Poster

It's in the "in store now" section of the website for £479.99.
I'm not sure if it's nationwide though. They had a few left in the shrewsbury branch where i bought it from.

This deal is instore at both Torquay and Paignton so probably nationwide........very tempted as been waiting a while for something at this size and at such a good price. Especially as i've got 10% staff discount
Any LCD boffins know if this is any good???

This is the same as the VX555DB and this gets good reviews on Avforums. The only difference is the 553 has a silver trim on the bottom of the TV.

I got this from Bedford store they have five left, I am trying to see what the difference is between a 37XV553DB and the one on Toshiba site which is 555DB according to someone on AV Forum it is the silver strip, nothing to do with the spec. Just wish I had a PS3 to test any lag that may happen, just testing my WII via HDMI at present, this is a good test for me has I have a £1500 Phillips downstairs which claims to be full HD 1080P compatible but it is not due to lag from the WII and my 1080P laptop via HDMI.

This may prove to be a cracking TV, time will tell.

From AVForums seems established 503/505/553/555 are spec wise identical. Just cosmetic differences (such as silver or black trims etc).

Is full HD 1080p set & generally seen as good set for the money (& that was at £500-£600). I have had 503 since May last year. Very happy with it. £399 sounds a bargain to me.

thanks just getting in car to get it how exciting rep added for your help

Bought this a few months from Sainsburys for £470 (£479 before VAT reduction) and it's a great TV.. a bargain at £390! Recommended.

For info, there was at least 1 left at the eltham sainsburys, but the tag on the wall behind it says £449, may go down at the checkout tho...

its alright specs
contrast ratio is a bit low compared to newer models of sonys and stuff but those cost about double
so for the price its excellant.

I bought an XV503DB last year for £530, and am very pleased with it. This is the same TV, and in fact 2 friends bought an XV553DB from Sainsbury's recently (but for £480-or-so, I think).
This is a really great deal - the television is excellent quality. It looks pretty good at normal resolutions and fantastic at 1080P!

Heat added! :-D

Zurich, what store in Edinburgh did you see it in?

Can anyone who has the TV let me know what its height including the stand is? I'm not sure if it'll squeeze in my cabinet.

Thanks!

I have this set, got it from Tesco in September. Xbox and Sky HD look amazing but normal TV takes some getting used to compared to a CRT although it is getting better i've noticed, maybe its becasue production is switching to HD or maybe i've just got used to the picture lol.
Spawney, sorry tape measure is in the shed but it's not much bigger than an old 32inch tv with the speakers on the side, this is due to the slim surround which I love.
Great price also.
Heat and rep added.

Does it have a headphone output socket? It seems to be becoming a rare feature these days.

If you staff you also get a 10% discount right?

Yes it does (3.5mm standard one) - On the right with the side inputs such as 3rd HDMI componant inputs s video etc.

Saw this today too - I already have one - Great TV and would recommend it

CV models are lower grade than XV - Not sure if they are 1080P either from memory - Check the toshiba site for specs ]Here

JL will probably get out of it by saying the 553 version is not EXACTLY the same as the 555 version.

Also, with all the excitement of a) finding a decently priced decent 1080p and b) it being the LAST ONE, I forgot to check they Ben & Jerry's section!! DAMN.
