I have this ladder and was happy with it (see below). Firstly the thumb thing is ok, just keep your digits out of way and it'll drop down under its own weight.... however there is a second problem...

if you get any grit/sand or rubbish on the tops of the rungs it'll fall between the gap of the telescopic rungs. This will prevent the ladder going up or down easily. Mine has nearly seized up as a result of cleaning gutters and getting a small amount of detritus fall othe ladder.

it was great until then, so fine if you'll never do anydirty jobs with it!

I think this ladder has individual catches for each rung. I had to change mine because it kept trapping my thumbs. Get a soft close one.

Plenty cheaper alternatives on ebay. Got mine delivered today 3.8m for £46

At the end of the day I would never use one of these for everyday use.. probably to reach above the garage to get a football or to clean a window.

Theyre cheap ladders from china dont forget. Not branded and not tested to the british standard en131.. even though it may say they are... juat thought to give my opinion

Same here, used to build a pond or rather get in and out when laying the blocks and I got sand in it. Never been the same since

I guess you didn't bother to read the article.

"In the worst case, a ladder snapped in half beneath the test load − despite claiming to comply with the safety standard.

Mike Ashworth, Strategic Director for Economy, Transport and Communities, said:

"We began these tests after concerns were raised by a Derbyshire company. The results are absolutely shocking − particularly with firms advertising the ladders as complying with relevant safety standards as this means it is now difficult to advise buyers on what to look for."

Spot on. Ive been using mine almost daily over the last three years in my job, and it definitely has now seized to the point it’s a struggle to use. So handy to have though, as I don’t have a roof rack for. If ladders, this has gotten me where I need effortlessly. Tempted to replace mine at this price.
I wouldn't buy one of these if you value the use of your legs. Had one for about 3 years and although it never broke when I was using it, I went to get it out one day and one of the upright sections had completely come away, so it was swivelling on the remaining one.

Doesn't exactly inspire confidence and the locking mechanism exposed looked feeble.
I have this. very happy with it. decent solid build and easy to put up/down.

What does 'Foldable' mean in this regard? Can it be folded in the middle like an upside V so it doesn't need to be rested on a wall?
