But then you are paying nearly £500 and it is not such a good deal.

I usually find the Dell optional extras very expensive.

If you can buy a Dell "deal" as-is then it is normally a good deal, start adding things and the price goes through the roof.

There was a Dell system unit on here the other day for about £240 with no monitor, but when you looked at the price to add a monitor it was like £200, yet you can buy a 22" monitor for not much more thasn £100 nowadays.

But it is only a Pentium Dual Core which are not as good as the "proper" Core 2 Duo.

I believe Intel are no longer making the Pentium Dual Core and the dual core CPUs are now only Celeron for the low end, and Core 2 Duo for the mid range and high end.

But what's the point of 4 gig with 32 bit windows ? It can only use 3 gig ??

(ps, anyone know why the smilies aren't working, again?)

not the best graphics card onboard!

It came up as £439 as there is £50 vat back?
Then £20 postage.
Would it be a good build with those 2 extras?

Be sure to upgrade to Vista x64, or a big chunk of RAM is going to go to waste.

Believe wot ya choice... But the only difference from Pentium Dual Core and Core 2 Duo is the CACHE

But Yes Go Core Two Duo as it IS HIGH END

No blu-ray, no way.

Without a doubt I'd be going for the vostro 1510 for £424 and getting a core2duo over a dual-core pentium..

Sigh, PC World marketing wins again!

The only difference between the CPU in that Vostro, and in the Inspiron posted is the L2 cache. Which, in real world performance, makes almost NO difference. Probably 1-2%.

Vista Business is not a good thing. Home premium is much more useful to 99% of people who will be buying this. There is also no option to upgrade to 64bit.

Bigger HDD? 250gb is more than plenty for 99% of people who will be buying this.

No webcam either.

So basically, an extra £25 for nothing besides a less useful OS and to remove the webcam.

Is it worth moving the price up from £398 to £420 for:

a WLED instead of a CCFL screen
a 320gb hard drive instead of a 250gb

Also is the 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 worth £50 over the standard Intel Integrated GMA 4500MHD?

I wish to be able to play a few games. Nothing high end like crysis (got a desktop for that ), but it would be nice to be able to play a few games at low resolution.

Mainly going to use to watch DVD's and to surf the net downloading videos etc.

cheers

P.s does it have a gigabit ethernet port?

pps is it worth £109 for a 4yr warranty?

Poor GMA graphics for 400 I'd expect dedicated.

Intel Integrated GMA 4500MHD

£400!!

prices have actually increase from 3-4 months ago. This sort of spec used to cost £350.

I'd say so if you plan to play some (older) games. It's a bit overpriced for what you get, but it's gonna be difficult to upgrade yourself to anything decent for that money

Any reason why the 4yr warranty is not worth it? Just wondering. I would sorta hope that my laptop would break in 3 years, I send it back in and get a nicer one lol. Is this wishful thinking?

Was thinking of going for one of these, just not yet. Best deal atm for me would be ecode ]N0454505.

Core2Duo P8600 2.4Ghz, 320GB, 4GB, 64Bit, 4Yr Warranty, Blu Ray, HD4330 Gfx, Wireless N, Webcam for £589 delivered which I think is reasonably good, probably because on this ecode the warranty seems to be far cheaper lol.

Last night in the outlet I had a 2.0Ghz C2D Inspiron 1545, 250GB, 2GB for £261. Damn good value that was.

If you decide to take out the 4yr warranty then make sure you at least upgrade / spend at least another £30 on this deal. That will then enable you to use the 10% discount code $MTD0C85S222WN at checkout.

Example: Upgrade to the 4 Year Warranty & Upgrade further components to the value of £30 - The total price after using the discount code would be approx £495 !

I think my calculations are right !

I've been watching the ecode ending in 5 for a couple of weeks, they have changed it and the price has gone up a bit this week because of the graphics being added onto it, otherwise it was around that price before.

Don't forget the 10% of £599 discount code $MTD0C85S222WN (Gives you 10% off the XPS, STUDIO and INSPIRON Ranges !)

My price includes it

Should've mentioned that lol.

For those who are wondering about the warentee... I'd honestly get it if it is a reasonble price. Laptops have a tendancy to go up in smoke (at least when I own them!).

With a shelf-life of only 3 years, chances are IF it goes up in smoke you'll get something faster

Never ever ever ever take out Dell warranty when buying a laptop/desktop.

Mainly because, if you dont, you'll get a sales call after about 30 days with somebody offering you special deal on the warranty package for it, which will usually be about half the price.

Has happened every single time I've bought Dell systems for work and personal use.
