Stupid question : If you have a valid NNID and Nintendo Account, can you purchase this without owning a 3DS and download it at a later date?

My daughter's planning on getting a 2DS for christmas and is currently Pokemon nuts. Might be a nice extra to have. Or more likely, it might be an interesting thing for her to look at disdainfully and say "tsk. What is *that*?" because ain't no 8 year old got time for that monochrome buuuuuullpoop. (She's 8. She's not allowed to say "****" to her daddy)
I don't think so - you will struggle to buy anything from Nintendo unless it is via the device itself through the eShop.

It's often quite cheap through key-sellers legitimately though and compatible with Pokemon Bank (via the other app thingy), if that's your sort of thing.

Unless they've changed it, I don't think you can. STUPID I KNOW.

All the games are tied to the console, and you use your account to transfer the licenses to another 2DS/3DS. If you can find a way to obtain a download code, you can obviously redeem the code when you buy the console.

From experience, moving software from console to console is way more difficult that it should be. I love Nintendo, but Jesus they're so bad at thinking things through.

In short - If you get a download code yes, if there is no code issued then no. Just log onto the website and see what you can get.

When you click the link there is a button purchase the games. Why don't you give it a go and let us know.
I belive you need to link the console to your account first before you can order online, so if you don't have the console it wont be possible.
Yellow was best Pokemon ever!!
How do you get the 36% off as i have linked mynintendo with nintendonetwork id? but it's only showing 20% off.

It's already applied to mine so I didn't have to do anything. Maybe try restarting the 3DS and let the store load up again?
I tried that several times but its still not working I don't understand why the mynintendo and nintendo network id are linked!
Honestly if somebody could help or give me the link to a live chat for nintendo customer service i'll be grateful cause im using mobile and can't seem to find anything
I think that I'm probably going to have to get one of these... just to decide on which! I'm leaning towards Yellow, unless anyone wants to convince me to get Blue instead.

They don't have an online chat service (which is a nice feature when retailers do offer it, but not all that common). Contact details here, for email or telephone: nintendo.co.uk/Sup…tml

Have you tried the purchase via the web version of the store, as well as on the 3DS?
Edited by: "Illusionary" 23rd Aug 2017
Yeah they both come up as 20% off instead of 36% cheers illusionary and others ill try that.
Im guessing you have to wait a day or so as now the discount applies.

Thanks everyone
IF I have Yellow already, is Blue better or Red? Will it let me transfer from Yellow if I use the same 3ds?

I don't really think one is better than the other as they are the same game. But you should have a look at the differences between them to see what Pokemon you prefer. This link can help you with that.

I'm not sure about the transfer from Yellow to Red/Blue on the same 3DS as I only have Yellow and don't have the Pokebank. It might be possible from two devices though. But you can use the Pokebank to get the Pokemon transfered into Sun/Moon and the game would need to be installed on the same device the Pokebank is on.

I just logged into the nintendo store on the website, so I would assume yes, you can buy stuff (its letting me buy stuff)
I'm having the same problem as fabisab, I've had my Nintendo Account and Network ID linked for ages. Still only showing 20% discount and not 36%.

If you have Yellow already, I would hold off and get Silver or Gold when they're released (not long to go now) - Yellow is the remix of Red/Blue, so you don't have a lot to gain by getting the others unless you REALLY like Gen 1, even if the price is good.

Pokebank converts Gen 1 pokemon to be compatible with the 3DS games - including adding Gender, ability, resetting IVs and a bunch of other things. Basically, it complicates each Pokémon you upload to a degree that I don't think they'd let you take it back, so you can't use it to move Pokémon from one Gen 1 game to another on the same console via the Pokebank.

(it's not really relevant, but if you're looking to move pokemon around with the more recent games, you don't need Pokémon Bank, you just put a crappy Caterpie or Rattata up for GTS trade on 1 game and set the demand to as closely match the Pokemon you want to trade over, chances are no one will snap it up in the 2 minutes it takes you to switch games and offer that Pokémon for the caterpie. Do not make the mistake of offering the good pokemon for a cheap, crappy Caterpie This works well for evo-trading Gravellers and Kadabras and the like. GTS is free, Pokebank is €5 a year. That's Gelato money now!)
I'm having trouble with this it's showing 20% off not 36%? Even though both accounted linked ?

I'm in the same boat as you were here, can I just ask if you found a fix to this?

Not so much as a fix just a waiting game I'm afraid ! It takes a few hours for the deal to come up as 36% once you've connected your accounts together ! I didn't have a Nintendo account just a ID so I had to register and link them did this about 12noon and the offer finally appeared at 5.30pm!
