Who says they won't, we normally get most of their specials, its America that doesn't.
Nintendo knows how to milk the nostalgia angle!
Supermod
Can buy this from Nintendo.jp for £142.33 if they deliver to the UK....can't work that important bit of information out though
I was a bit confused about this.

It says it is the superfamicom edition so assumed it plays old famicom games

The website says it plays 3DS games only.

It does however look like a famicom when seen from behind. - not sure this makes it worth the extra cash

They recently started bringing SNES games to the 3DS virtual console - they're only playable on the New 3DS though. I expect this is promoting that.
Deffo not the coolest 3DS unit ever IMHO...

There are one or two other good units too, like the Yoshi Egg 3DS XL which is quite nice. Or the Red Mario one with lots of Mario Land detail that was only released in USA or Asia (not sure).
Nostalgia at maximum captain!

Massive meh. There's only so many times Nintendo can draw the nostalgia card. I see them doing it through gritted teeth now. And im a Nintendo fan. + jp games only. Some positives but outweighed by the negs Imo. Grab a regular new 3ds and some plates. Lots if great designs to mix and match. I went hanafuda and it's great.
Nice but too expensive and the 3DS isn't region free.
It's sooooo pretty!
Lmao at people voting hot on this.

Thing is a lot of the people playing Nintendo now are late 30s, 40+'rs and played Nintendo as youngesters. Or they have bought their own kids Nintendo consoles. Nostalgia is always powerful. I don't think Nintendo have even got going yet, the list of possible themed consoles is endless.

I mean who isn't going to be a wee bit tempted by a DK 3DS console? Along the lines of...

I would buy a new 3ds version of this one INSTANTLY! My Donkey Kong game and watch was the one that started my gaming journey

Surely a SNES faceplate will create the exact same effect? They must exist?!

They definitely won't. You would probably have more luck buying it from an exporter via Amazon or Ebay such as this one:

ebay.co.uk/itm…501?hash=item3abecfc88d:g:y9oAAOSwmmxW2h4R

Keep in mind that this will be region locked to Japan though and will not be able to run games from over here or access the UK E-Shop. The system menu will also be locked to Japanese only.

You could potentially region switch it to a EUR model if you wanted to but you would need to downgrade and install CFW on it first and it can be a risky process if you don't know what you're doing.

They do for the N3DSLL, I have seen them in Japan myself. They were very limited edition though (that happens a lot in Japan) so I think your chances of finding one from abroad would be remote, especially at a decent price.

I think this one still wins it for me.

This is a prime example of deal thats hugely desirable but in reality is essentially useless and impracticable. And is certainly not a bargain.
i am getting mine soon for cheaper handing knowing a guy in japan
I would have bought this model but it only plays Japanese games

I wouldn't go that far. I have a Japanese 3DS because it suits me better than having a EUR one. Everybody is different.
Not that hard to softmod the console to allow region free... Guides out there. Console itself looks cool.

Most japanese exclusives are essentially unplayable RPGs unless you are fluent in Kanji. I would really love to play Taiko no Tatsujin: Chibi Dragon to Fushigina Orb though. Can you read Kanji or Hiragana?

Both plus katakana. Additionally my other half has a Japanese console as well so it means that we can share games that way. If I had a EUR system then we wouldn't be able to share anything.

It doesn't technically make it region free. O3DS/XL models can be forced to run out of region cartridges via the HomeBrew Launcher but the N3DS cannot. There is officially no such thing as a region free 3DS. Even devkits and debug units are region locked.

they've been doing the nostalgia thing now for quite some time to the detriment of newer nintendo titles. In this business you have to evolve, Nintendo hardware, tick nintendo software nope.

Correct, you'd need to use an unofficial, custom firmware, or an exploit-based hack using a copy of Cubic Ninja or other exploitable game. Which may not make it "officially" region free, but it will play games from out of region just fine with the correct tools installed. Naturally this wouldn't be supported by Nintendo and will void your warranty, but such is the risk you take.
