Its 3 Network pay as you go, and a bargain if anybody can find them

Is there not some software floating about to unlock them ?

Yes very easy to unlock.

If you have mobile BB included in your current mobile package you can use that subject to the network usage policy etc.

I have an unlocked one, but can't seem to be able to purchase a mobile broadband sim card to use it with. I have a three one but can't always get a signal when I am away from home. The whole idea of getting it unlocked was to use other networks but that has proved impossible unless I purchase the said networks dongle.

A bargain if anybody can find them and if anybody can get a 3 signal.

It's a bit of a lottery. They are great if you can find a signal but if you are travelling around it would be so frustrating because there are so many dead spots compared to other networks.

You don't need a "special" SIM. PAYG sims would be compatible, then you buy PAYG data.

*Caveat: not all SIMs are 3G (UMTS) capable, but they stopped making and shipping those years ago. Pretend to have a 3G phone and check it with the store, although most store staff will be unable to help you as it's quite in-depth technical knowledge and the SIM doesn't have any markings on it that identify UMTS support. I'm 99% certain all SIMs are 3G capable today, as all networks use 3G heavily, even Orange.

What are the costs of running these things? Do You still need to go on a tariff and/or when you top up does the balance have an expiry?

Thanks aty, just got one this evening from Sainsburys in Whitley Bay.

I thought I'd seen one on sale there months ago so popped in on the off-chance. There were none on display anywhere, I actually found it at the newspaper/tobacco counter, lying down on the counter being used as a stand for two mobile phones display boxes - it was stickered as £39 but scanned at £12.25, dropping to £11.98 with the VAT reduction. It's an E220 model (product code 18026). Got the SA to check in the cupboard but he said there weren't any more.

Thanks again aty, heat and rep added.

I love a Billy Bargain

Been looking at these for a while problem with 3 pay as you go is that your topup expires after 30 days if you use all of it or not. Vodafone pay as you go cost £5 more for a 1gb topup but it does not expire till you use it. So if you go Pay as You Go Vodafone is better. If you don’t want the 3 credit to expire you have to get pre paid packages on the 3 site it £97 with 12gb included that does not expire for 12 months. Plus you get £11 cashback.

if you top it up £10 a month for a year this deal works out at £132 and your getting only 1gb. I posted another dongle offer today for £90 over a year for 3gb a month and everyone’s voted it down. go figure!!.

hi there i seen these for sale on ebay pretty cheap as theres loads of them. also theres people selling simcards which they claim go into these on 3 network and providing information so you get unlimited data for internet mobile for something like 5 pound per month. can anyone clarify if this is true.

Hot deal if you can find at a store, everytime i go for these deals at sainsburys always out of stock. Good luck people.

I got one of these from 3 a while back. These unlock via the internet - it cost me €15 to do it then. These Huawei E220 dongles work out of the box on eeePCs (Linux or Windows) if anyone is interested.

these are great bits of kit at a great price and even better wen you no wot i no wich is mobile internet from 3 for £5 per month unlimited thats £5 not £10 wich is minimum on 3 with igb alowance

So to confirm these can be unlocked to use sims from other providers? I have an o2 data sim that I would like to use.

Thanks
Paul

can anyone get me one please i will pay post and for item thanks

And are you likely to share this information for free?

Bubba

look for iphone 02 sims on ebay for about £13 with £10 credit included. You get a years worth of o2 broadband included. No need to pay £10 a month and includes some extra cloud wifi hotspots as well i think with the o2 connection manager software. If you are not with o2 already you can either get your data card unlocked or buy a sierra aircard 850 for about £20 on ebay which works really well with the o2 software.

They're probably thinking of the Internet Max add-on, fiver a month meant to be used with your phone.

You can unlock the E220 for free I just can't remember the procedure right now though I was able to unlock mine some months back.

Wot ?

According to what I have read on the 3g forum these other 3g network cards will not give me broadband on my unlocked dongle. I have a T mobile web & walk card which I have been told will just charge me the normal web & walk rates if I use it in the dongle. As I am not very technical I just do not know and I dont want to waste £10 topping it up if it does not work. I do not know which network that 3 mobile default onto when there is no signal in the area you are in because there would be no point in buying that network sim card anyway. Ideally Vodaphone would be the best because it does not expire in 30 days if not used. So far I have not found a guaranteed answer but there is probably one out there somewhere.

just found this on the web about unlocking the e220 dunno if it will help but at the end of the day it's all about trying to help each other on here is it not?
avforums.com/for…tml

ill pay some 1 £20 quid to get me 1 and post!

just a note to say that you don't actually need the dongle depending on the phone you have already got. It can be used as a 3g modem hooked up to your pc/laptop.

"Wilma" im off out now to find one in one of the stores, will pick you one up if i see a couple.

If you read that thread you will find it does not work. I was one of the posters in that thread. This however does:

None of the networks currently supply SIMs for data only for private customers, they all supply a SIM with dongle package. You can buy 3G enabled PAYG SIM's for 02, Orange and Vodafone on Ebay separately but these can only be used for daily paid data or possibly weekly data add ons. There are also T-Mobile 3G SIMS advertised on Ebay but they don't work at 3G speeds and T-Mobile informed me they will only supply 3G SIMs with a dongle or 3G phone.

3 default to Orange when there is no 3 signal, however that is only for 3 voice, Orange cannot be used for 3 data any more, you used to be able too but changed last year.

As stated on the previous page the £39 SIM and dongle from Vodafone is currently the best value PAYG with a 180 day expiry if not used and possibly £10 Quidco.

I thought 3 defaulted to o2 network if three network wasnt available?

No dongles in my three local stores:(

Sainsburys conputers are all down - so none can check stock in any store (allegedly)... none in my locals in SE London: so, as per someone else's post; if anyone has a spare, I'll pay £20 inc P&P for one

thanks very much:

I'm a bit confused here, I bought a nokia 7600 & a t-mobile payg sim card a couple of years ago, & it connects to my laptop at 3g speeds no problem @ £1 a day capped. So has anything changed?
