These are great for students. Actually they are amazingly efficient - they'll convert 100% of the electricity used for cooking into heat which will warm the ambient temperature of your room.

Yes: 100% - I mean it.

So you study all day but leave a chook in the pot, come back home and not only do you have coq au vin waiting for you but the room is nice & toasty as well.

Every student should have one.

Looking to but my First slow cooker? Will this one be alright ? Usually I'm cooking for two but also for 2-3 days. I like stews but I already have cast iron pots which do nice job with them

This one was my first and i have to say its very good much easier to clean than having a joint of meat spit fat everywhere in the oven + saves room then to cook more in the oven ^_^

Can we cook rice in slow cookers ?

Can we cook rice in slow cookers ?

Technically yes, but why would you want to? Rice takes about 10 minutes to cook in simmering water, which somewhat contradicts the concept of 'slow'.

and it wouldn't be better rice, it would be quite horrible after (say) 5 hours

Rice cookers are completely different they use a spring mounted switch which cuts off power when the water is absorbed into the rice and just keeps the rice warm . Get a rice cooker from asda direct.

Thanks all for the info.. !!
