Not quite.

Ever wondered what happens if auto darkening doesn't work on a visor? Not much. They HAVE TO (if BS approved etc) block all the harmful UV and such even when not "darkened", though really when they're "clear" they are rated at a specific shade.

Using a welding mask without auto darkening might leave you with some bright spots, but this isn't going to cause any damage.

I think the welding in this is a welding _shade_ which is a specific meaning in regards to a standard. Original Amazon page gets this correct...
