Product Features

7V solar panel
Charges AAA, AA, C or D-sized batteries
Includes a blocking diode to prevent reverse charging
Charges 4 batteries of the same size at the same time
Adjustable stand for directing towards the sunlight
Includes power lead for connecting to small electrical goods
Convenient portable case with carry handle

On a good sunny day, 4 x AA 2000mAh NiMh batteries can be charged in as little as 6 hours. The batteries are charged within the case, which features a fold-out stand for directing the solar panel towards the sun. The solar charger measures 165mm (w) x 130mm (h) x 55mm (d) and the carry handle extrudes a further 43mm to the height of the unit. The charger is supplied complete with a 5-way spider for powering small electrical goods such as personal stereos, toys or torches. Please note: the charging circuit is designed to charge 4 rechargeable batteries in an in-series circuit system (4.8V). Only 4 batteries of the same size and brand can be charged at any one time. Recharging times will depend on the strength of the sunlight, the level to which the batteries are discharged as well as the battery capacity. The higher the capacity of the batteries to be charged, the longer the charge time required will be. Do not attempt to mix different sizes or brands of batteries. Do not attempt to recharge alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries. Batteries are sold separately.

I know it might take a while to charge but its ideal for sticking in a shed, caravan or even car window to make sure you've always got a few batteries on charge!

I believe in the UK the charging time is sometime in February.

Actually to be fair, it probly wont take more than a few days to charge a set of batteries, good for sitting on the windowsill charging a set of batteries to replace in your wireless keyboard/mouse or remotes for various things.

If you found one cheaper let us know, as its already getting cold for no reason....

can you tell us if thy're any good? worth 15 quid or 6.99
?

For the most seriously ardent energy saver.. . although I wouldn't be surprised if it took more energy to make these than it saves! :-(

I get the feeling this would be so hit and miss it would put pelple off using rechargeables and they would head out to the newsagents to get some Alkaline ones!

Quick review of the item for anyone interested:

Can only charge 4 batteries at a time, would have been nice to have the option of charging 2 twice as fast. In best conditions i.e. outside in south facing garden during summer it can charge 4 batteries in a day (depending on battery size and discharge of the battery). In the house it might take a couple of days. During winter though it might be a week+, so just leave them in until required, the voltage will be so low the battery should not be damaged. Maybe best for camping or a caravan. If you don't get on with the item you could rip the solar cell off and use it to improve the charging on a solar light string on something.

I might be trying the new Uniross solar charger next as it has a USB charging point on it as well as charging batteries, currently half price, and can charge just 2 batteries so ideal for the xbox 360 controllers!.
