I've ordered memory from CEX before and ended up with 'registered' server type RAM. Not to say that's usual, but just a warning - you don't always get what you expect.

Yes, CEX has cheap PC parts.

So far today we have had a £15 i3 and now 12.50 for 4gb of ram - any wuggestions for a motherboard to complete my upgrade?

Was thinking more £19.99

Have an old intel board which from what I can see is set to CL11. Wish they would list the latency of the RAM, but then again they sold me server RAM at one point so it's probably unrealistic to think they would know the latency.

yeh these are small form factors, cheers anyway

If you want a 1155 board, get a cheap zoostorm base unit (I bought mine from £60-£100 with 12months warranty). Ive bought 3 now that I will eventually upgrade with cheap (i3/i5) cpus from the G3220 and G840 they currently have.

Cex need help with packing....

I bought ram from CeX before and they send it in a normal envelope... unsurprisingly it snapped in the post

Had similar with a hard drive - arrived as a bare drive just loose in a jiffy bag !

This is pretty common, if you go into a store you will see why, it seems to be mostly the same kind of disinterested and alternative youngsters (nothing wrong with that in general and occasionally you get someone really enthusiastic who likes their work) but as it's so variable you just never know what will turn up in the post where there's no benefit from actually packing something properly - 'out of sight, out of mind'.

Had a £250 graphics card turn up in the same way from them, backplate so bent, no hope of fitting into a PC and shroud cracked.

There are some ASUS P8H61-I ITX motherboards with backplate for £36 on ebay.

agree with that, you get what you pay for really. Ordered 2 second hand ps3 controllers and they were just put in a simple bag no real packaging to protect them they both arrived cracked like they had been squeezed/trampled on.

Still a bit of a budget board though, but I suppose it'd be fine for someone not bothered about usb 3 or sata 3 or any extras

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I had that too, server or registered RAM instead of what I'd ordered - they also can't work out the difference between DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 it seems as I've had all 3 types delivered when I had paid for DDR3 desktop memory.

Its really a shame, as the retail prices of RAM are just too much for me to justify updating a machine which only cost me £250. CEX's price range is perfect, but their lack of knowledge makes it a chore.

My solution was to order way more than what I needed and keep it as spares, knowing that about 25% of it would have to go back due to faults - my local store looked in horror as I returned a laptop, 3 GPUs, 4 sticks of RAM and a hard disk but it's easier than shipping it and relying on them, at least in store it's instant.

And then they blacklisted me for 'bulk buys not for personal use' - yes, apparently it is possible to buy 'too much' from them.

Blacklisted!!!?? Wow, how long does that last for?

Waste of time trying to buy a RAM from cex... you will get Server ram, DDR2 or not working RAM(dead or with faults)...
They not test RAM only smell if is not burned(that's what they told me when I asked why half of these stick are faulty or not working.).
They always blamed Franchising shops but they have the same mess in normal shops as well ....
And they blacklisted my account as well when I returned to many of them hahaha ,what I supposed to do?keep faulty rams?
Beware of buyinf any of them you will only have problems.

Indefinitely! Apparently it's ordering too many of the same items or similar items. I did ask for clarification but didn't get it. Then there was the hassle of them giving me vouchers not an actual refund but not letting me spend it. Fortunately I slipped an order in with another account (would it surprise you to know that given how well they test items, all it takes to bypass a 'blacklist' is to get a new email address and slightly misspell your name)
