Love Buda! Super friendly, cheap, clean and loads to-do.

If you're heading there make sure you do the Go-Karting and the Pinball Museum, lots of old school arcades, very good value for Money.
Good deal. Personally I'd just go Aribnb if going to Buda again, can get some really nice apartments for dirt cheap, but that's just personal preference. Definitely one of my favourite city breaks, if you haven't been, definitely go!
I am Hungarian and i do recommend do not change your money there a lot safer if you do it here , and if you are there do not show the money specially the bigger notes . As people said before do very careful with taxi drivers they are gangsters , i also say avoid gypsies specially if they are in bigger numbers if you see them on the streets do not stop and talk to them they will try rob you and take your money etc.

Not sure about boutique hotels, however if the price includes hotel and flights then you’ve got a bargain. The local food and bakery’s are lovely 🏼

Very good deal. I wouldn't say there's loads to do in the centre as you can pretty much see and do everything in 2-3 days but it's a very nice city and the people are really down-to-earth. The ruin pubs are worth whiling a few hours away in though (check out the Szimpla Kert for sure) and there are some really great restaurants that don't cost the earth.
Lovely place super cheap. If you go in the summer you've got the outdoor Spa's, etc if you've not been well worth it

My other half went in December for the Christmas markets and absolutely loved the place, thought it was beautiful with great food. Need to check it out myself.
good deal thanks!
Truly one of the most amiable and wholesome cities in Europe.
Take a trip to the Széchenyi Spa a must visit (take your swimming trunks) see trip adviser for reviews

Watch out for dodgy taxi cabs, get the Hotel to order you a taxi, and dont hail anything on the street, you will get ripped off.

Budapest is split into two by the river Danube, Buda is hilly side not much goes on there and Pest is the flat side
try to stay in the Pest side as that's where most of the attractions are.

You can go to the spas all year around. At winter time you might be surrounded by snow and you might not see out from the steam tho. Google for pictures I personally would go for sightseeing at spring time as it can get dead hot over the summer and freezing cold during winter, but that is just my preference.
Anyone know how much I can trust "Bargain Late Holidays" who are behind this Groupon deal?

Since the booking is non-refundable, I'm not sure about the risk involved.
Stay away from the 2 night deal at the least, the 3 and 4 night ones might be okay though. I booked the December 2 night stay through something similar and you essentially get forced into being up sold. The 2 night stay arrived at 23:00ish so the first night was getting to the hotel, before leaving the following day at 04:00.

Like someone else mentioned it might be a better shout to keep an eye out for cheap flights, and grab an airbnb/hotel yourself. But that's just from my experience.

Love the city though! Been once in an AirBnB and once with a deal from HUKD and enjoyed both stays. Definitely check out the ruin bars, the hot baths, and you can get michelin star meals for a tenner!!!!
Budapest is a lovely city. You can often get cheap flights from London airports and accommodation is fairly cheap. There are flights for Feb on Skycanner for £30 return. We got 24 hour travel passes for about £9 and it covered 2-5 people to travel on all buses, trains and on the boat trip up the Danube. Food and drink was very reasonable and good.

+1 for the pinball museum. Looks very seedy from the outside but spent a happy few hours in there last year.
'hospital in the rock' is an old nuclear bunker in budapest, well worth visiting on a guided tour. You can even buy souvenir gas masks.
I'm thinking of doing Budapest in the summer for a city break with my family. I'm hoping for 10 days away total and wanted to go to a couple of cities, maybe 3.

Can anyone suggest where else I could take them? I'm after a mix of city break, good scenery, spas, experiences etc... I'd be travelling from Luton or Stansted.

Thanks
Great deal

How would you go about booking for 2 people in a twin room?
Never bought a holiday/city break deal from Groupon before you see, but me and a friend was looking for somewhere to go in the next couple of months

Looks good
Good deal.

i went last month when xmas markets were on. Booked it about 6 months before they announced them and our hotel was on one of the main xmas market squares. It’s a beautiful city. I would reccomend the pinball museum as stated above. The hospital in the rock (nuke bunker hospital), the house of terror and heroes square

Hi, do not trust them awful company, first.. Scam, scam and scam... Google them see the reviews. They charge extra for flights, does not matter if you say you take the awful times they quote you first, they will basically say that the flight price gone up a d if you don't pay you have no plane tickets... They will say the hotel is fully booked and try to charge extra as well...
Book your own flights and Airbnb and definitely see Budapest, one of the best town breaks in Europe.
Ryanair it,sort your own hotel, amazing place, had a fabulous long weekend there, food outstanding for cheap prices, ruined bars excellent,so much history and sightseeing.
Hotel Nemzeti is recommended.
Tony863,you could do hapsburg triangle,Vienna,Bratislava and Budapest,60 miles between them.

I'd be open to options but I'd prefer some kind of short hop from one place to another.

That sounds like the kind of thing I was after. I'll have to have a look into it..... Thank you
Vienna is only a couple of hours away by car or train. Speaking of trains there are overnight trains from Budapest to Berlin in one direction or Ljubljana/Venice in the other direction. Prague is about 6 hours drive away. Pecs is a very nice Hungarian town/city to the south in one of Hungary's best wine regions. You could maybe fly in one city and out from another.

Summer can get very hot so I'd advise to go in the Spring or even early Autumn is beautiful.
Airport taxis are fine. Only one company operates but prices are set by local government. You go to a booth just outside the arrivals hall where the attendant speaks English. Tell them your destination and he gives you a receipt with your taxi number, destination and estimated fare. You get in the corresponding taxi who already has the destination sent to his satnav and when you arrive you pay the fare on the meter (mine was 500 huf below the estimate). Caught the bus on the way back to airport - from Central Pest there was one stop and it only cost something like 3 quid.
anyone know if it is better to wait for cheaper flights from BHX .. Around Feb 15th to the 20th ?

is £147 with lufthansa reaonable ?

We went there few years back for a week. Loved the country and food. We spent few days in Budapest. Then went Szentandre. That's a nice little place. Also made a trip to Siofok. From there went to Lake balaton and went on a boat trip. Beautiful scenes during sunset. We also made a one day trip to Bratislava which is about 3 hours by train. All these places are connected by train.
Went to Budapest recently via a similar deal and it was bargain late holidays who it went through, same as this deal. All I can say is AVOID. Take the dates and hotel and run it yourself and it will probably come out around the same price, if so, book it yourself separately.

Worst company I have ever dealt with. As others have said, they try to upwell different flights, will try and book you into different hotels (they did this to me and the hotel was disgusting, luckily I did a chargeback and only then did they change it). They're very pushy. You'll end up spending double the group on price if you're not careful. This was a really stressful experience for me.

Anyway, Budapest itself is a great city as others have said! Be sure to go on a cruise down the danube, szimpla kert ruin bar as previously mentioned is amazing! Several rooms with different bars, quirky up cycled furniture, shish, food etc - very lively at night. As for taxis, download the taxify app on iPhone and use that - similar to uber and gives you fare estimates etc. Other than that public transport is mega cheap and good

I used buses and metro, the old metro is amazing, mostly walked about as it is massive. Any day is a good day to go to the baths!
Cool city! Highly recommend visiting! Really enjoyed my stay a few years back and will return for sure. It was a January I went; quite surreal to be outside in a thermal bath when circa - 8... Put hairs on your chest that did! so many other things to see and do, and all and all a very scenic wee city to boot. At this price it would be rude not to, although doing separately always worth checking and is what I did at the time and was a really good deal. Really want to go back now that I think of it more!
