Noticed that there was some decent availability of these reduced to clear 4 pack of bulbs. Also worth checking bulb clearance as some of the items that went out of stock previously, seem to have more stock. Free collection to store.

If I have non led lights that use the same fitting can I just replace or are the transforms behind the fittings that dont allow this?

    cheers

If they're low voltage GU5.3/MR16 fittings that run on 12v these lights might work fine. What you have to watch for when it comes to low voltage halogen light fittings and the transformers that drive them (especially if they're older) is some transformers require a minimum load which these LED lamps will not meet. I would remove the fitting if possible and look at the specs on the transformer before buying but at 90p it might be worth a shot and fingers crossed.

Great Post! Thanks I had missed out on previous price cuts, now managed to get enough dimmable GU5.3 bulbs to kit apartment (covered in them) twice over.

Something to be mindful of with LEDs is whether they have high frequency flickering. Older and cheaper designs tend to flicker when viewed using the slow motion mode on your phone camera. I'm not saying these do have high frequency flicker but even if you can't see flickers with the naked eye they can cause eye strain and headaches over long periods of time.

Is this true about headache and eye strain? Is their a scientific evidence? This is the first time I’m hearing so genuinely interested. (edited)

Bought some of the dimmable LEDs - swallowed the extra 10p! A test with a spare Aurora electronic transformer (as used in the existing set-up, each supplying one 50w halogen bulb) shows no apparent problems - good light, no flickering, humming or flames!

I must assume the electronic transformer is not 'under-loaded' when feeding only one LED. (I'm not proposing to use a dimmer, although both transformer and lamp are suitable.)

I shall test further before I consider replacing halogens with LEDs but encouraging so far.

Time to replace all my 40/50w expensive bulbs for these better energy saving hopefully brighter bulbs, ordered 10 pack!
  11. Zedmeister's avatar
For 10p extra, the dimmable ones give you 10000 hours extra service so even if you don't need dimmable, they are better value.

Are these the same as my ceiling led spot lights? It all seems so complicated compared to just buying a bulb!
Mine have a box thing on the flex in the ceiling!?
    Sammylove2011's avatar
Just check if it's the small pin connectors in existing lights rather than GU10 larger round connectors and it will be them. Driver boxes should be compatible with these

All good until found I had to go and pick them up

These have been great so far. Got some LEDs off Amazon and they all flickered, the dimable ones of these don’t at all. Fingers they are not only cheap but also save me having to buy and install 39 transformers for all me LEDs

Aren't these only for 12 volt systems....My 240v bulbs aren't push-in like these, but my 12volt ones are.
