Doing up the kitchen? - frustrated that most 12.5mm worktop router bits have a half inch shaft (or don't do a full counter depth)?

All the 'hocky stick' templates I've seen assume a half inch bit, and as these tend only to fit £200+ routers, this can be a tad on the expensive side.

Now I'm well aware there's a school of thought which subscribes to the opinion that a half inch wide bit needs a half inch shaft, anything less may well snap, I confess I've never actually seen this happen, so I'm willing to give this the benefit of the doubt, the other suggestion may well be that cheap bits have all the mechanical resilliance of cheese, and last no more than five minutes each, but I only need these to make two cuts and five minutes is all I need them for - anything extra is a bonus!

Aldi description: ¼" and 8mm shank extra long Router Bits, used to cut and fit kitchen worktops.

Includes:

3 Straight Cutter (12.7 x 50 x 8mm shank)
1 Flush Trim Cutter (12.7mm x 25.4mm x ¾" shank)
(also comes with a hex key to adjust the bearing)

They're also doing a router, but someone else has posted that, also they have a 'multi pack' which features OG profiles nd the likes, I've enough of these to open a shop so I didn't buy one.

Thanks for the comment robs, no, seriously,

I'll try them out on a scrap bit of board first, and take it really easy, if it turns out as nasty as you suggest then I'll be glad I did, and if it isn't too bad, I'll chance doing it on the good stuff.
